That's the "hollywood/History channel" rule.

All you need is one low field-of-view spot and you can be there forever.

That'd only hold true if you play against complete idiots or the map is very poorly designed. Any other way, and a sensible player will easily take down a sniper who refuses to move even though his position is revealed.

Guess I've sniped complete idiots in very poorly designed maps since [insert release year of Delta Force] then.

Right, of course you move if you have been seen/heard, but moving when you haven't been seen/heard only makes it more likely for you to be seen as you are moving to a new spot.

Creepers - You will learn to hate them...perhaps almost as much as Skeletons. The trick is to whack them with a sword and then run backwards before they explode in your face. If they're hissing, like a lit fuse then avoid them because they will explode in your face.

Ah but that's why you don't move immediately after the shot, but wait for a a while. If your position allows for it you lie absolutely still for a the first seconds or minutes following the shot, because that's when the enemy will be most alert and generally trying to spot you. When they recover from the initial shock and start searching for you it's time to get out.

Just make sure you hit your target.

It's the ones you miss that are alerted to your presence. Don't need a lot of distance on RO before the shot becomes inaudible at the recieving end.

And I'd say "move if your position is comprimised".

And what casual**** you were playing again? Halo? Rainbow Six Las Vegas? Battlefield?
This "Hollywood/History channel rule" appeals to SIMULATOR games like Battlegrounds Europe, Operation Flashpoint, Armed Assault 1&2 etc etc any game with a God-damn realism applied.

By the sounds of it any decent player would eat you alive Dowly

Aren't those pretty big conclusions to be making based on Dowly's short and technically true statement...?

Please do tell, how it applies to simulator games only?

And where did I say "only" smartass?

In any decent game with realism applied you are usually zeroed by your enemy after the first or two shots, then its go time.

Just looked like you're saying that with all that "casual****" stuff on your last post. My mistake.

True. Sound gives away your general area, all the more reason to avoid moving unless absolutely necessary.

Try Arma, Red Orchestra, Rainbow Six 3, Ghost Recon, etc.

Bloody hell, I spend over an hour laying on a hill with a rangefinder ranging his shots in Arma. We once wiped out a garrison with silenced M110s, including their light armor support (with M136, obviously).

Here's an idea: join the RO sniper tournament we're hosting and put your money where your mouth is.

Lol Arc, don't bring AI into this please. They're clueless what comes to snipers and how to fight against them.
