Default IGN shuts down GameSpy

Sad news:

Quote:
Why is this closure happening, then? It’s a business thing, and like most business things it’s not easy to explain or understand unless you spend all day crunching numbers and paying bills. Which I don’t. So here’s the simple version that even I can comprehend: Ziff Davis wants to run an efficient, focused company, and managing several different sites that all cover videogames isn’t exactly the model of efficiency. Even though GameSpy had its own unique voice that was separate and distinct from those of our sister sites, and there has always been value in that, it’s hard to argue with that logic. Even if it does totally suck.

There goes my daily routine

It was always a nice quick read before work, to get my brain working.

Agreed, I used to really enjoy reading their articles, they not only covered reviews of games but also the tech side of the games. Also they covered the Indy games better than most, it seemed.
A real shame. One less bookmark here on my PC.

Boooo!

I always liked Gamespy. Another pre-2000 website disappears into history.

Gamespy finally kicked the bucket?
Let's see what the meter sais...

Nope....stil nothing.

Never liked gamespy, hated their 3th party online service in order to play games online which back in the day if you where foolish enough to download the actual gamespy client and installed into your computer which was uterly useless and just hogged your system.
(Yes, I never liked 3th party services in order to play games online as in some cases it removes the essential (imo) Direct IP/Connect by IP in games which is still the best way to play games online which can be problematic if the game's only way to play online (a third party service) is pulled offline and it's not been taken over by gameranger for example.)

Yeah I never did like GameSpy either. I didn't use it much...but I heard some bad reviews about it and I just didn't like that entire idea.

Steam I only use because it's one of the only ways to get some computer games....and heck...Team Fortress 2 was free.

I still remember gamespy from Civilization 3: Play the world

That thing never crashed on my once during a game! Take that! Steam, Origin, Uplay, and all your crashing when I'm about to win!

But now, my gaming site of choice is Gamespot, their original shows are simply the best of any gaming site.

I especially like Escape from Mount stupid: http://www.gamespot.com/shows/escape-from-mount-stupid/

You wheren't around when it hogged, crashed and you wheren't able to connect to 80% of the lobbies/servers to play a game and it disconnected you at random from the game.

Thank god for ASE back in the day best server browser app ever.

I haven't played an online game in 10 years, so I don't care.
