I'm fine with what we have now. Just give me a nice clicky keyboard.

A direct interface with brainwaves is the way i think it will go. What Skybirds theory doesn't take into account is that it will be something people will start learning to use when they are barely out of their diapers and maybe even before that. One doesn't have to be a Zen master to do something one has been doing all their life.

As far as plausible technological advances go (as of this rate), it should be touch, then motion, then mind. Then you combine them all. Touch interfaces are so-so, motion interfaces are fairly advanced. Mind interfaces are pretty much non-existent, unless you count some of the few and rare medical tools used by high-rated and priced hospitals (though you have to plug them into the patient's head, essentially).

Seconded, though I have to see it work. The technology will have to be developed for handicapped persons first before it can be of any use for the rest.

If it's not reliable or require too much effort there is no benefit and people won't use it (see voice recognition).

I developed software for touchscreens and find them very awkward to use. The main reason we use them is space constraints, you can't use mouse/keyboard when you are working outdoors, especially on a scaffolding.
