Strange Error in 688(I) H/K

Hello ALL! my name is Incubo an i'm from Colombia, i recently traveled to USA and i just bought a copy of this great game, here this game was never released and i just had to conform watching videos and screenshots of this game (the only game i can recall seeing sold here was Command: Aces of the Deep) . Well i finally bought it but whenever i try to install it a "ERROR Preparing decompressor" appears and from then on the only way is quit i've tried this a million times with the same result. I've also searched in hundreds of boards (including this of course) with no hope. I'm desperately searching for help and any help will be appreciated gladly. Thanks in advance.
Incubo

PS:Great page by the way!! And forgive me for the lousy english

Question: Is this the version that comes with the Naval Combat Pack or the standalone "Janes" version ? And what OS are you using ?

It sounds to me more like an OS issue rather than an issue with the game itself.

I googled that error message and found this forum thread. I don't know how helpful it is....

I like XP and try running the game as administrator.

Hi all thanks for answering so fast!
I'm using win98SE (just to play this game) and my version is the original EA Classics version (i guess that's the Jane's version). I've seen the post you sent me and from what i could read i think that the guy from that post had the same problem as me, it's just for another program, also he didn't work it through . I guess I'll try some of the thinks the post says to. Thanks anyway.

It definitely sounds to me more like a Windows issue than an issue with the game itself.

I finally solved the problem, apparently a program was interfering with some InstallShield programs i uninstalled the program and voila! i was able to play no problems so far. The program name was WinBoost by Magellas Corp, i hope this info can help someone. Thanks to the posters for all their help.
