I only saw it once, on TV, a very long time ago, and remember not liking it so much. This means I have no idea and can't help. On the other hand...

Hey, Mike! Long time!

The live action footage was of the Tang class diesel sub USS Trout. I guess she was meant to portray a Skate class boat, or a fictional version of the nuc prototypes (Nautilus, Seawolf, Halibut and Triton).

i realy realy think if i remember right it was a nuclear boat that was older being they mentioned something about it just having been in for a refit... one could say its probably a fictitious boat that might of been made had they of made more of the USS nautilus class Sub.

On the cover of the DVD boxart, it looks like there's a picture of an Ohio-class SSBN, which wasn't even in commission when the film came out. But I'll cut them some slack, as DVD boxart's usually aren't designed by the filmmakers, e.g. Crimson Tide DVD boxart with a WWII SSK on the cover.

In this , it appears the sub has two screws.
