Peter Tork, bass player of the made for TV band, the Monkees has passed.

A lot of the Monkees earlier material was written by such notable song writers as songwriters that included Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Neil Diamond, David Gates, Neil Sedaka and Jeff Barry. Drummer Micky Dolenz is one of those rare individuals who could sing and play drums. Phil Collins and Don Henley of the Eagles are others.

In my opinion, Peter tork sounded a lot like Ringo Starr and the Monkees were in my opinion, underrated. . Peter tork sang an off beat / psychedelic song, " Auntie Grizelda."

One of my favorites from the monkees.

I think there are only two left.

They were one of my favorite bands. I thought they had a nice sound and some great writing.

I grew up watching reruns of their show, and loved it. Never really followed them individually after that, but the memories watching & laughing at the silliness.

I loved all their music during that time frame, but would have to say "Last Train To Clarksville" is my favorite.

Peter Tork was actually a very accomplished and respected musician in his own right; he had come up in the Greenwich Village NY Folk and Blues scene and had performed with a number of well known genre acts, both live and in studio sessions. He was a multi-instrumentalist and, when the record label had studio musicians (the famous LA Wrecking Crew) play all the instruments on the Monkees first couple of albums, Tork was the only band member allowed to play with the Crew because he had not only the skills to keep up with those legendary studio pros, he also contributed a great deal to the "Monkees Sound". Mike Nesmith was likewise a veteran musician, in addition to being a noted sonhwriter (look up his songwriting credits if you want to be impressed), and he likewise had to suffer through not being able to shine through under the record company/TV network restrictions. Tork was a great musician and will be missed by those who really knew of his true talent...
