As I recall it was excellent. On the other hand I only saw it once, back when it was first shown on TV.

Saw Beirut a few days back and quite like it. Good story, good acting, nice plot with the normal situations of "ah, that guy is the b..." and a good photography also. Only nick pick for me was during the early 70s, the ray bans aviators didn't had the name in the lens.

First trailer for submarine thriller Kursk starring Matthias Schoenaerts and Colin Firth

Quote:
“It is the first major Russian Navy exercise since the end of the Soviet Union, but the K-141 Kursk is deemed unsinkable and its crew recognized as the best in the Northern Fleet. Among that crew is Captain-Lieutenant Mikhail Kalekov (Schoenaerts), a devoted naval officer with a loving wife (Seydoux), a child, and another on the way. He and his crew board the Kursk and descend into the Barents Sea with a sense of optimism and fraternity. Then come the explosions. Many lives are lost instantly, but Mikhail and others are safe in one of the sealed rear compartments. They have air and food to last until they are rescued, but when will help arrive? Once the sub’s seismic activity is detected, Britain, France, and Norway offer their assistance, but Russia insists it has the situation under control. Time is of the essence, but time keeps passing.”

Another great film you don't hear much about. Great story, great casting, majestic pace. Very well done.

You're right that 'The War Lord' is a little-known gem. The atmosphere (and haircuts) all authentic, but it was rarely shown on TV. I think I tried unsuccessfully to get it on DVD once... I'll have another look

Saw First Man tonight. It was decent, but I would have liked it a lot better if the cinematography, lighting, and editing weren't so obnoxious for most of the movie. Great performances, but the superhypercharged-electrific space sequences drove me up a wall. Was relieved when they landed on the Moon, and we finally got a scene that was properly lit and didn't look like it was being shot by someone having a seizure.
