Default A specific lagging issue

Ahoy captains!
While this sounds does not related to software or anything like that but I thought it would be the best to post here.
So I am having a heavy lag issue when i play a massively multiplayer online strategy game ( Navyfield).
The lag always occur at a specific time.
The server hosting the game is not the cause of this lag.
The ISP is not the cause of this lag , yet, I just switch to a better ISP about 14 days ago. I still have lagg issue.
Firewall? Off or On, I am still lagging.

Router? I tried also to check the things related to port.
I reboot my router and my game play is still lagging

Modem? I plug the Ethernet wire directly to the modem and I lag more than connecting through a router.

PC performance? I assure you it's not the problem.
Temperature of pc? I can still having lag issue if I reboot my pc, or left it for a while and still able to run "games which requieres a higher performance without any lag"

Anti-virus? Nope, I don't scan it when it runs .
Defragment hard drive? Yup, I did still nothing has changed.
Temporarly files? I deleted them frequently.
Change resolution desktop to a lower resolution? Nope, the lag is still there.

Other than that.......

So after giving the most information I can remember, I am just wondering if it's karma......:rotfl:

You wouldn't be using Windows, by any chance?

Seriously though, what OS are you using? Maybe some info on hardware, like is the NIC onboard or add-in?

What time? How long for?

Why can't it be the Hosting Server?

Have you checked your Scheduled Tasks? The biggest drain on any system is a background process, be that stealth defrags or stealth AV scan. What about Auto Windows updates?

There's also the possibility that your ISP is throttling you during peak usage time. They say they don't but they ALL do.

Windows XP, I dont have any clue about running 32 or 64 bit.
Usually, in the week days, I am lagging from 9:00PM to 11:00pm.
In the week ends, I lag during the whole days.

Hmm, 9pm to 11pm is a short time for ISP throttles but it is definitely possible. Usually (here in the UK) throttles start at 6pm and run to 11/12pm but even this should provide a minimum connection speed of no less than 2mb.

As for your weekend lag issues, while there should be no throttling on the weekend, it's entirely possible that your exchange is too busy to cope with the traffic. This will cause your PING to be too high to maintain fluent gaming.

PING times are the main cause of Lag in games (not connection speed) and it basically measures the time it takes for a single data packet to reach your ISP exchange server. More users on that line means a high ping for everyone.

You can have a high speed connection but a high Ping = Lag
You can have a slow speed connection but a low Ping = No Lag

Acceptable PING rates are between 20ms to 70ms for online gaming. Try to measure your speed rates before and during your slowdown times mentioned above.

For what it's worth, high traffic would be my guess as well.

Sounds like he's on a congested cable hub that lags during peak hours. Or you have a bad either net cable thats causing collisions on your network.

Hops 4-6, 13 and 14 jump out strong as likely points of slow traffic.

4-6 have average times WELL above 100 - thats lag.

13 is averaging about 112ms - still way high, and check 14...

14 only had 1 of 3 responses returns, that one way over 200ms. Talk about a choke point.

However - a trace route is NOT a measure of your through traffic speed. I ran a quick ping test to the same IP - 3 of 3 sent and recieved with an average response time of 92ms. Thats high for an online game to start with.

If you want to see the lag occur - here is what you do. Run a ping command with the -t option and leave it running before you start playing. Check and see what the average times are looking to be. Start playing - when lag hits - bounce out to your command window and see if the response times are significantly larger. If they are, then you have found your issue. If they are not, then you can rule it out being ISP related.

Ask your ISP just a thought but i would notice with my isp lagg would always hit at the same times luckierly it was based from 1am to 11am where im usually not gaming anyways i rang my isp and they told me that between the hours of 1am and 11am is for torrent users if i wish for no lagg in those times i can go with their torrent plan will cost me more but the speeds will be faster than the plan im on. Otherwise non torrent users will get lagg in those times. Im not a torrent user so turned it down. Convinced me lagg will depend on what plan you take on with your isp.
