Small bit of shopping in the town earlier and now back listening to a pod-cast while drinking black coffee.

Hello everybody peeps! Sticking my oar back in the water after too long away.

I've been bouncing round various odd-jobs trying to keep body and soul together, but I've finally fallen on my feet and got in with a fibre-optic broadband installation company up in London. The hours, work pay and benefits are all good, so things are finally starting to look rosy!

I'll be nosing round on here, seeing what I've missed out on but it's good to be back again.

Good to hear about the job. We're not supposed to be money-oriented, but sometimes just knowing you have a steady income can make all the difference.

Surgery went quite well. Lens replacement for cataracts is quite routine, but stil a little on the scary side, especially when they describe how they crush the lens and suck out the remains. They give an option: get full-length lenses and have to start wearing reading glasses, or get close up lenses and wear regular glasses like I have the past fifty-eight years.

If I go the latter route nothing changes except that the new lenses won't change shape, and you never need another eye exam. The natural focal length is about six inches away, which is great for reading and building models. If instead I take the path that most people do, I won't have to wear glasses for everyday use but will need them for reading. I do have one neighbor who says his sister took the third and strangest route - have one of each. She says that she has gotten used to it, and wouldn't have it any other way. I don't think I want to do that, so I told them I wanted regular lenses, as reading glasses are quite cheap.

The operation took about two hours. Right now I can't see anything out of that eye since they used extra-strong dilation drops which haven't work off yet. I have to sleep with a metal eye patch for a few days so I can't rub my eye while I'm asleep, and I have to take three different eye drops four times a day for a week. Tomorrow morning I have a post-op checkup appointment, and they'll do the other eye on the 17th.

Waiting for the mail to arrive. My newest Air Rifle should be here today!
I'll call this one Unobtainium.
It's a Edgar Brothers XVI Air Rifle.

Very hard to get one here in the Colonies!
