I reckon you may be right but I wouldn't fancy a night onboard, especially after having trespassed.

It is the Delfim.

It is in a shipyard for dismantle and this guys brook in and spent the night there.

Think they were only caught in one camera, when leaving, according to the news, but only after they posted the video on youtube, the matter was know, at least for the press.

Never understood why the navy didn't recover it, put it in dry dock and make it a museum.

Cost that's all that governs museums

90% of museums around the world rely solely on charity and visitors and in some cases government sponsorship.

If i took the UK IWM that is a government aided museum and that comes out of the tax payers pockets inpart and by admissions and donations to make up the rest of the income, if i recall to keep the IWM sites open costs around £25m per year.

Take Chatham dock which is not part of the IWM it requires direct funding from visitors and also contributions from trustee's and companies they barely can scrape through each year and rely heavily on things such as the ropery and small holdings to make up for budget fluctuations.

Like with an active vessel any museum vessel has to be kept in a reasonable and serviceable state for the safety of the visitors (whole reason the Black Widow is no longer a museum) this means it requires the spending of money each and every year not just on the vessel but other facilities too.

Take a look at Birkenhead redevelopments and lack of trade cause that to go into liquidation its just not that easy to give up space any more especially in Europe.

TS Iveston a mine warfare vessel and sea cadet training ship was moored in Tilbury docks they fell short on funding they couldn't keep the repairs in place they also we asked to relocate by the port due to expansion Iveston ended her days in Erith being scrapped by EMR

When it comes to these things it is all about money i do believe USS Texas Clangmore and Scorpion in the USA are suffering hard times as of late with the latter two likely to be scrapped or sunk.

I understand, but the navy already has a museum, so placing one sub as a visit-able wing would not be so hard( in terms of costs), and with the visitants paying for see the sub, would get some revenue.

It already costs to visit their museum, so for a extra 1 or 2 euros, one could visit the sub.
My home town museum, where I worked, is a Municipal Museum, so its a section of Cultural Division of city hall. A visitor pays 2€, 1 if over 65 years old and 4€ a family. The museum have reserves that can also be visit with a payment of one more euro. Only it has to obey same rules (tour guided and such) and since the place has such more interesting material, normal all the visitors tend to pay more and visit that.

What is the purpose of that movable "gate" blocking the companion way?

Is that to lock out the area for maintenance?
