Default Flag Swap No Workie

So...

Got tired of trying to ID targets by that postage stamp glued to the mast. What's the use of having a 12kilometer torpedo if you've got to be at 900m to figure out if it's okay to shoot?

I'm not a modder and my efforts aren't getting me anywhere.

Here's what I've done:

In photoshop I've created a garish and glowing yellow flag for my enemies to wear. It is a targa the same size as all the flag targas in the game.

I put the yellow flag targa in the same folder with all the other flag targas.

I've downloaded s3d and have changed flag.dat by showing it where the yellow flag targa is to replace the british_mil flag.

Problem is, when I launch SH3 and check the british warships in the museum, they are still flying the union jack.

What am I doing wrong? If you can help, please explain using small words that a non-compute like me can understand.

btw, I've tried a couple of the existing flag fixes and they just aren't getting the job done for me--still too damn small. Which is probably correct for the sim. I'm sure that nighttime and long distance target ID was a real problem for boat skippers but for a sim, I think it impacts the playability. IMHO.

Please help.

Yes, you are right : at 12 km, you can't see if a ship is hostile/neutral/friendly. And you can't see if she has some guns on the deck !

So, here is my method for one or several ships sailing without any escort :

- Let's say the ships spotted are at 14 km away.
- Go at surface depth.
- If the ships are firing against you, so they are hostile. No problem, mate. Their guns have only a range of 10 km (stupid AI) !

In dark nights, sorry, but you can't identifie a ship.

Weird method but imaginative and unusual
