Default Must read books

I just wanted to make a list of books about u-boats during WW2 or they could just be about submarines in general and wanted some suggestions.

The best WWII submarine book I ever read was Thunder Below by Eugene Fluckey. Also recommened:
Das Boot, Bucheim
U-boat war, Bucheim
Clear the Bridge, O'Kane
Wahoo, O'Kane
Silent Victory, Clay Blair
Also exteamly valuable for sub sims is the little paperback that came with the old Subsim Up Periscope, called "US Submarine Warfare in the Pacific" (I think).. Lots of great info on tactics, manual plotting range finding manual TDC, etc. Joe S

Thanks Joe, I just ordered, on your recommendation, Thunder Below and Clear the Bridge. After reading Silent Victory and Pride Runs deep by Clay Blair, I feel the need to get back in diesel smelling confines of a US sub of WWII.

I enjoyed that as well. However while reading Silent Victory I sometimes thought "Hmm I thought Fluckey did that first". I just got the impression that his idea for blowing up a railway line was novel and that he implied that. Then I read that it was done before him, something he doesn't mention.

Perhaps I'm being unfair, but I got the impression he was keen to blow his own trumpet. Good book though!

Clay Blair's two books about the U-Boat war should be essential reading. Another man with a slight ego, but they are a wealth of great stories and insight.
