Default Windows 8

Greetings all.

It's been a long time since I was last here and as long not playing SH III.

I have just purchased an HP Laptop with Windows 8 and before I try to install SH III, I was wondering if there are any special protocols to allow such an old game to run in Windows 8. I had a browse through the current threads but didn't spot anything that could give me the info I might need.

I will also load GWX etc, once SH III has loaded successfully.

Thanks in advance to those who may be able to reply.

Brad

Not installing the game in to the default location in "Program Files" could be such a special protocol. But that is not because of Windows 8, but because UAC gets in the way (started with Vista). Provide your own installation path like c:\games\SilentHunter3.

Same goes for SH3 Commander, or any other game that might end up being modded one day.

As Pisces says set your install directory to c:\games\SilentHunter3
Just installed it in windows 8.1 and it runs flawlessly though I use a separate drive for games ie. D:\Games\SilentHunter3 along with SH3Commander but yea you should be good to go.

In my experience running the game as admin isn't neccesary, provided the game is not installed into the Program Files folder. Also compatibility mode isn't required in my experience.

Running the game installer, the patch, the GWX installer and the SH3 Commander installer do need to be run as admin, as that is a requirement for a Windows installer program. Running (the latest versions of) JSGME seems it also requires to run as admin.

I'd also suggest running the thing in compatibility mode. Couldn't get mine to work until I did that.
