Default LCS-1 Commissioned

May the seas and oceans be kind to her.

Gotta wonder how she will stack up compared to the FFGs she's to take the place of. There has been a lot of news, not all of it good for her.

Default Stupid Design

Went to a brief on this one...
It is a stupid idea - Littoral meaning shallow coastal area and stealth...
Hmmmmm let me think - does it have a cloaking device?
So it will be fully visible to the thousands of fishing boats, dhows and trawlers and most of those idiots have cell phones....
Grey Angular Ship, US Flag, Bad guy country - better hope some of their fancy remote vehicles will double as life rafts..

They will find a use for it. Tho I suspect it is a bunch of hype otherwise.

It was DIRECTLY targeted for a budget cut during the election which is not a good sign.

Yep, she is certainly a nice looker.

I should imagine the success or failure of the design will be determined by whatever tasks are asked of her.

"Don't expect a gallon out of a pint pot" I would say to the Navy.

Is that the one that did its "Sea Trials" on the great lakes?
(Lake trials????)
Sorry, but the trials process of the USN starts to look like that of Mussolini's italian navy.

Sorry, but something is broken in the US defense industry.
The LCS, the LPD-17, the USGC Deepwater program.....
Is there something like a project manager anywhere near the Pentagon, or are there too many project managers and not enough engineers and real soldiers?
I strongly suspect that the USN keeps building Burke class DDGs not because they are necessary or better suited than the Zumwalts but because it is a proven design build by people who know what they're doing.
Maybe they're allready scared of the mess the Zumwalt project will be.
Ok, with the LCS the problem is that they attempt a SciFi solution to a known problem.
Why didn't they simply build a new class of FFGs, or corvette sized vessel?

Massive understatement. If the USAF wanted a few hundred Cessna type aircraft for general training, they'd each cost $28 million (lowest bidder), be 15% overweight, have three different possible engine configurations, and enter service eight years late.

coastal does not mean affected to coastal regions only , Oliver Perry can go on high sea without problems . the ship seems specs ops oriented specs ops happen at night in general . for ships you don't need "perfect" stealth like for fighers for example , a good shape to reduce the radar signature's in general enough
