Default German minisubmarine found in Gendt (Netherlands)

http://www.omroepgelderland.nl/web/N...ot-in-Waal.htm

(the website is in Dutch, I will translate the text as best as I can)
*2 photos and there is a small video on that website where you see the mini-sub been dug out.

GENDT - Friday afternoon a German WWII Minisubmarine has been found in the Waal at Gendt.
The Minisubmarine has probally been used in a failing attempt to destroy the Traffic- Railroad Bridge of Nijmegen which has been captured by the Allies on 20/09/1944.
The Germans made several attempts with Aircraft, Submarines and Divers.
On 29/09/1944 German divers managed to blow up a part of the Bridge.
The Minisubmarine shall be donated to a Museum.
(the photo shows the part of the Bridge blown up by the German divers)

In January 1945 the Germans from Emmerich made several attacks on Bridges with the so called Biber Minisubmarine of the Kleinkampf Verband of the Kriegsmarine. A Unit of the Marine that in the late days of the war was called to life to launch attacks with these Minisubmarines on Allied harbours.
By the attacks on the bridged at Nijmegen the torpedo didn't get any further then the Anti-Torpedo nets deployed by the Allies. Some of these Minisubs came entangled in these nets. The now found minisub has probably been lost in one of these attacks.

Well, you learn something new every day

I didn't know they actually managed to blow the Nijmegen bridge, or that they tried to use Bibers to do it...

Ha, you never know what they might dredge up from those rivers.

Nice find.

Pretty brave guys, the guys of the K-Verband. Most of the missions they sent guys on were basically suicide missions. Majority of them never returned. Still in the middle of a book about them.
