If waves are up, use contact, if water is calm, use influence. They're other values, but honestly I don't see much effect.

I use the opposite factors.
If it is stormy and especially before mid 1943 I use magnetic influence detonators. I only run contacts in smooth seas after 1943. If the ship lifts in rough water the fish simply goes underneath it and misses. The influence detonator would go off. In extremely rough seas I have even seen the influence detonator miss but it was from the sea hight lifting the ship so far out of the water not the detonator.
