contact/influence -- torpedo settings
The default for the torpedo settings is Contact I believe (That is the setting I observed when I check the Sub school settings a few minutes ago.) If you toggle Contact and do not toggle back to Influence, is the Influence setting deactivated? If you leave the setting on Influence and do not toggle Contact, does the Influence setting really work? What do you have to do to activate Contact and Influence? In short, how in the hell do you activate one but not the other? How do you activate both? And finally, does the Influence setting really work?

With magnetic trigger selected, both triggers are active: torpedo detonates either by proximity or by contact. Depending on the conditions, more likely premature or not at all.
Setting for contact means contact only; influence trigger is disabled. Note that Mark 10 torpedoes have no influence trigger, even though you can select it.

Depending on mods, but I think stock may be the same. If you use contact you will get more hit's that dud. Set on influence, more prematures. However, even if they premature they don't give you away as they should, really a bug.
Early war I carry plenty of M10's...least they work, but carry enough M14's for possible long shots. You do have less failure early war with M14's if you shoot at a slight angle at slow speed as they did early war until the firing pins were corrected. |

Contact (C) means only on a solid hit.
Influence (C+I) means on a solid hit or the magnetic influence trigger operates. The contact trigger is always, always working. The magnetic influence trigger is what is on or off. The earlier torpedoes for the US had problems with all sorts of things. Hitting square on at high speed would sometimes crush the contact trigger instead of letting it trigger normally. A slight angle makes them work better. |
