Our new place will be in the next village, about 4 miles away. Needs must, I'm afraid: we've seen too many friends & neighbours become stranded out here once they are no longer fit & healthy so we're looking ahead. Losing the car recently has just been a foretaste

One of the biggest things that shocked me when I was stationed in Japan, was walking along the Sasebo Ginza in the fall and seeing............ chestnuts being roasted outdoors on charcoal grills.

There is melancholy in your words. It is sad to have to give up a beloved place, a beautiful apartment, a familiar house. The familiar view out of the window, the view of that landscape, that one path that you like to walk. Having a good home is so important. Always being mobile, having to move all the time, never being allowed to put down roots, I couldn't do that anymore, and even in the past when I had to, it was hard for me.
I hope you have found an alternative place where you feel comfortable.

Thanks, Marc - my wife is very tearful now reading your words; yes a great deal of melancholy, and especially since the time here has gone so quickly. We always knew we'd have to leave one day, whether we liked it or not, but it's come around so fast. Thank you for your kind wishes; we do already have a "second home" in the in-laws' house (which is where we'll be moving to) but it's not in the country and we'll just miss the hell out of all the nature and vistas we have here

@ Jim - there's even buses and a mailbox there, right by the house

this full movie, just for you and your wife. Its bitter, its sweet, and there is a beautiful truth in it that is beyond words. I have a feeling of that it fits in here. One of my top favourites.

A nice "walking" video ( not by me ) of my neck of the woods. Through the lovely Royal Botanical Gardens through Woollomoolloo ( even I can't spell it ) , up the Man o War steps ( locally known as "Heart Attack Steps" ) and up and down various streets in "The Cross".

Filmed about a year ago, Post Lockdown.....but where are all the people ????

Very slow paced but beautiful scenery.
