Default What is that line for? A towed sonar array?

While looking at one of KFG's screenshots on Steam, I noticed something interesting on the back end...

Something else to note are the hull numbers on the sail. It seems that the SHOWHULLNUMBERS=TRUE doesn't do anything, or I don't know how to use that feature.

I hope KFG adds these two features...

KF announced they'll be introducing an animated towed array which the user can retract/deploy.

In regards to the hull numbers, this is intended primarily for surface ships which have been textured accordingly. For US Navy submarines, both during WW2 and the Cold War, it was common practice for the numbers to be painted over for operations / deployments if for nothing more than disinformation.

I think that may be a pre-release screenshot. I remember there was a submarine streaming a towed in the game announcement trailer, but KFG said they experienced technical difficulties trying to implement the 3D representation of the towed.

Oh you're right, look at the last few seconds of the trailer.

Pre-release version of Cold Waters had graphical towed arrays.
Unfortunately the physics didn't hold up well enough and we removed them just prior to release.

Default Shooting Down Aircraft

Out of curiosity, is it, or will it, be possible to attack aircraft at some point? With a missile while submerged or surfaced? Or with anti-aircraft guns while surfaced?

I am unsure if this capability was available, but it would be a fun "additional" side-mission, if this capability existed during these time periods.

I very much enjoy playing this game.

Modern subs don't carry deck guns. Small arms are available to security crew including automatic rifles. Unless you are up against an ultralight with a hand gun, subs are not capable of serious surface to air encounters and will do everything to avoid it. In Dangerous Waters, subs could be equipped with stinger missiles which are still proximity line of site weapons, and the risk the sub and crew have to take to be in a position to use it is perilous. Against a trained and aggressive anti-submarine opponent, the sub will be the loser where even a small amount of damage to the bridge could seriously endanger the boat.

For the most part, surfacing is a death wish at realistic and above levels.

DW only added stingers as a counter against players who chose the P-3 Orion in multiplayer games.

If you want to be true to history, then you should forget it's even an option and stay submerged against aircraft and evade.
