Default Reconissance problem

Hi guys, I'm new to the community.

I have recently started playing SH4, and my current objective is to conduct a reconissance operation... well... in my home base (the port of Soerabaja). And someone in my crew keeps on saying "Passing thermal layer", even though I'm on the surface (!?)

Is there anything I can do to solve this? Or is everything allright and I didn't understand my task?

Hey Kilo Welcome aboard! I have had that same problem it's just some kind of glitch. My favorite was is when I get Torpedo in the water and it repeats several times but no torpedos are actually fired. From what I understand it has something to do with when you save a game. As far as your recon mission goes on your Nav Map there should be a star with a camera in it. Have fun and try to stay off the bottom!

Thanks for replying, captcrane.

I looked at the map and the star with the camera was on top of my base, next to my sub. Weird. Managed to get to my next objective by photographing a tanker docked at my home base.
Now i'm getting ready to attack a task force, while its escorts are searching for me more than a mile away from my actual position

Good luck with that TF! My last several patrols have turned up nothing but a few sampans that were used as gunnery practice and three small Marus. I actually haven't had the pleasure of dancing with a TF for at least 5 patrols...

Hey fellas. I try to skirt around TF's when i can unless its just an ideal opportunity, but then im usually in an old S-boat HA.
Im currently playing a campaign as the USS Perry DD-340 out of Surabaya.
I started off in Malena on Dec 9 1941 and ive been out since. its now the 21st of Dec and ive sank two Marus, both alone in the Sulu Sea. right now im screening off Singapore. its a challenge playing a Clemson class DD. its like a really fast S-boat that cant dive but it has 4 deck guns and some decent AA haha. its grown on me though. you must be very choosy on your targets because shes very vulnerable. two jap tin cans is quite a match for her you have to out manover the enemy if they come close, or out run them, thank god she's fast!
Commerce raider.

I had (emphasis on had) a career in an Omaha cruiser. Came across a large convoy that turned out to not be the merchants I was hunting, but about 8 warships. I was doing good staying at the edge of my artillery range until the Fuso at the tail end started firing. Total face palm moment when I saw those flashes and realized what it was. Wish I could have watched my ship sink instead of getting the "mission failed" screen.

Didn't do too much damage to the TF, only sunk a cruiser and a troop transport. Now, I need to ask: Is there any way of making a back-up of my saves?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found them.
