Default Screenshot Problems

Ahoy Fellow Submariners,

I am encountering difficulties with screenshots.

I have read in game that the control is ctrl-F11 and I have also read that they should show up in the game directory as bitmap files.

Unfortunately, I have tried several times to do this and I cannot find any subsequent bitmap files in my Silent Hunter 3 directory.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Would a mod have affected this function?

Would it matter if I had taken the screenshots in a training mission vs. a career?

I appreciate any help in resolving this matter.

The files should be found at c:/(wherever sh3 is installed)/ubisoft/Silent Hunter III. if any images have been produced they are mixed in with a few important files such as data. Have you got a keyboard with a function lock button or similar. Try that because on my microsoft keyboard function lock needs to be on to make screenshots. On my system there is a pause that is just about noticeable when a screenshot is produced. That may let you know if it has worked

It depends on your mod and on your used widthscreenfix. Use either the tool setkeys or open the d3d9.ini (LSH and Ccom) to find the correct key-combination for screenshots.

Or use a external tool like fraps to produce screenshots.

Or if you have Windows Vista,7 or 8(.1) and the game is installed into the default install location in Program Files then Windows probably denied the creation of the screenshot files in there. Because it doesn't allow files to be created or changed without administrator approval. This approval request was likely missed because the game was full screen, and subsequently denied.

The least problematic solution is to install the game else where. Though for Steam install cases this may not be so easily changed. For that it is said to remove the 'read only' option of the entire install folder. There should be a thread about this somewhere.

I had to press really really hard on they key combinations for them to work, but they did. And it toggled on/off with the same command, but while running, slowed down my framerate.

I have this problem also, keycombo doesn't work and I tried Fraps, but that only produces black screens. I'm using Win8 and Gwx with widescreen fix.

Game installed under Steam-folder and is in writable directory.

For you the widescreen fix is very likely the cause. It is known to have problems with making screenshots. Many people encountered this. I have not used it personally, so there may be a workaround that I do not know about.

Agree on the widescreen fix. For me, the widescreen fix under Win7 means if I try to do a screen cap I crash to desktop.

FRAPS does not work either.

Screenshots have worked for me in the past, but now they don't seem to. The game isn't installed anywhere different, either. Weird.
