Been talking about schooldays on the phone with an old friend from way back (reconnected via Facebook)... I can't seem to post pictures in my Subsim albums any more, so here's a school photo of me just turned 10

^ Ouch. If the proc. is damaged it may get expensive Mainboard alone should not be as bad..
Good luck, hope it turns out to be a minor problem. Anyway, reading, making music and walking is not bad at all

I had that same problem ... so I sent the processor back and got a refund.

I think it was the fan I installed wrong ... so the next time I ordered a MB/Proc/fan already tested and installed and then when it got here all I had to do was install the video card/ram/power supply in my case and I was good to go.

If you can afford to try and fix it go with the MB combo proc/fan already installed.

Can't say I noticed but I'll ask the wife, she knows her best.

I already have the processor I wanted, and I don't think that's the problem, as all three processors I have show the exact same symptom. The new MB is on its way (almost). I think the problem is that I tried the installation with the board installed. This time I'll put it all together before installing the new board. The big problem right now is that I couldn't afford rush shipping, so I'll likely be without a computer for another week.

Now that's frustrating.

^ can you put your old computer in service in the interim until you find a cost effective solution for your current system ?

Nope. My last computer, which was given to me, was given to someone else when I bought this one. "Cost-effective" doesn't matter. The new part is paid for. I just have to wait until they deliver it. Meanwhile I'm posting from the library or, in this case, from my apartment's office.

And at home? No research (except from the books I've bought), no gaming, no videos, but I am catching up on a lot of reading.

Hi all, the wife and I are having a good time at the Grampians, so I won't be on much in the next week.
Cheers.

Hello SubSim:
I am now resting at home after an emergency admission to the Katy TX Memorial Hermann Hospital on Oct 9th. After lots of testing, my gall bladder was removed with complications causing another 7 days hospitalized. My recovery is moving forward very well at this time, but I am not out of the woods to say yet. There is issue with my pancreas. I am to have it re-scanned in about 45 days.
Best wishes to all,
Clay
