Germany had this one sewn up. Leading by one goal with 2:27 left in regulation, Germany turned over the puck in their own end. They should have carried the puck out and if needed, shoot it into the other end. I don't think icing would have been called as Russia would have had little choice but to chase it down considering how little time was left and the puck wouldn't have reached the other end. This wasn't the time to get cute but go into defensive mode for the remaining 2 minutes and some change to protect it's one goal lead.
All in all, the German Hockey team acquitted itself well though and surprised many. They should be proud of how they played. Congratulations to team OAR ( Russia ), Germany and Canada for winning the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, respectively. One question: Is Ice Hockey in Germany as big a sport as it is in the U.S, Canada, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, and Finland and other places?
