LOl my first thought was

How in the hell can they have a sequal to Das Boot when everyone died well except the politbureau guy.

But no I see this is some goofball comidy. Dont suppose we will see an engrish version of this anytime soon.

Glad to see Muammar Qaddafi found productive work in the film industry.

Actually, I think about a 1/3 of the crew in 'Das Boot' made it into the bunker. I know for sure both 'the Chief' and 'Number One' survived. I was glad they spared the Chief.

But I get your point.

Check out 'Up Periscope' with Kelsey Grammer. Looks like the same thing but using a US sub. I think it was the Pampanito in SF. Crazy movie, nice shots of the boat though.

I love that flick.

The interesting thing is that a friend who is a former submariner told me it's the most realistic sub movie ever made.

Knowing the stuff we used to do in SCIFs as a former 'dittybopper', I can believe it.

Don´t know exactly, but this movie was also produced in the "Bavaria Filmstudios" near Munich, where "Das Boot" has been produced at that time.
So it seems obvious that they used at least the 55m (1:1) interior mock-up, which had been built for "Das Boot", for the interior shots. (BTW this mock-up is open for visitors as Museum, along with the 11m model, which had been used for most of the surfaced scenes and some conning tower mock-ups...so if you stay in Munich, it´s certainly a must see)

The 1:1 exterior mock-up, was located in La Rochelle, I don´t know what happened to it after the shooting of "Das Boot", in fact this hulk was also used for Steven Spielberg´s first Indiana Jones Movie and it sank during a storm on one occasion, but was recovered, what happened to it finally...don´t know?

But there are also two interesting parallels in the cast of the new movie:
  • Jan Fedder - played Petty Officer Pilgrim in "Das Boot" (the guy, who fell off the conning-tower, during the storm scene), is again part of the crew in this new movie
  • Dustin Semmelrogge - is a Petty Officer in the crew of the new movie, his father, Martin Semmelrogge, played the 2nd Watch Officer in "Das Boot"
I´m really looking forward to this movie:rotfl:

Here is another Trailer, with more exterior shots of the boat...also german only:

Cheers,
Michael
