Perhaps one day....you just never know.

This type of work is labour intensive and time consuming...a start had to be made somewhere.

My sentiments exactly Jim. One guy, one computer, so many subs.

Outstanding work! No one can say that the artwork isn't beautiful. Please let's not whine and moan about details unless you can do better. captziggy

this is without a doubt top notch work, absolutely amazing.

i have a question that hopefully someone who knows about the engine can answer. in the photo of the real engine room (http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z...ko-engine2.jpg) the camera is focused on what im guessing is the rocker assembly for each pistol (3 valves? ) are the long rods closest to the camera the push rods and on the other end the valve return springs with the valve stems on the inside? it also looks like the springs are set in a triangle pattern. so is that all what i think it is?

It's an inline 6 cylinder.
One Push Rod controlled the Air Starter System I believe.
Not sure what you mean by Triangular?

Today We use Glow plugs to pre-heat the cylinders.
At first they were run over by air to get the heat to fire by the compression itself.

One Company I do work for has an old engine that has the Air Starter System.
That comtraption is bigger then my house!
I'd love to hear it start up.
But it's been laying in pieces for over 40 years.

cool i was right, thanks! and by triangular i was talking about how the valve springs in the photo the middle one appears to be offset more towards the fulcrum of the rockers, as opposed to the model where they are all inline. if you look at the photo and look at pistons 2&3 from the right you can see what it is im talking about.

the photo appears to be like this
F----S
F--S
F----S

while the model is all inline

F----S
F----S
F----S

but one more thing i noticed is that the 3d model seems to be missing some valve stems.

Your seeing photo distortion in the image you set a link to.
They were all set inline.

Remember,
not only were photos used to build the models?
But some blueprints were used also.

Everyone here has helped Tomi as best they can.
And most found that you must look at
many photos from many angles to resolve isssues.

I saw that Neal posted this on the front page and I took it for an April Fools joke. But I see now that it's not.

Beautiful work!

I've never seen anything that looks this good for SH4. My thinking was along the lines of "holy crap!".

I would whole hearted agree with Privateer in this respect. The material available to Tomi for this engine room and a few good questions has brought Tomi to this point. Everything Tomi rendered in his mind and in the 3D virtual world are entirely plausible and very reasonable facsimile of a u-bout engine room. Not to mention the miles of wires and pipes inside a submarine that Tomi had to pull out of a picture in his mind and find the spot for it in the virtual world. For a first shot at a 3D room, Tomi nailed it lock, stock and barrell!

If they have another mod of the year 2009....this one gets my vote. Not because it is a new room for submarines but the sheer amount of effort, time and imagination spent on this mod by Tomi is just over the edge!
