It is a weird composition, a favorite of mine (I also have a tendency to give it repeated listenings) since it first came out in 1969; it was released as a single in a much truncated version, but the best studio version is the album cut on VU's third album. There are a lot of live recordings of the song, both official and as bootlegs, and they are all fascinating. Lou Reed was a genius songwriter and some of his odd rhythmic approaches are masterful. A lot of guitar players have tried to get the proper feel of the guitar parts, but mastering the actual rhythmic feel is like trying to get the "Bo Diddley" guitar strums down exactly right; you can get close but it takes a bit of real practice to really make it work and sound right...

Interesting fact: Before forming the VU, Lou Reed worked as a house songwriter for a knock-off record label specializing in releasing scam albums that featured sound-alike songs mimicking top recording artists; it is also rumored he also played anonymously on some of the labels releases that feature "The Top Hits by The Original Artists", compilations of songs made famous by chart-toppers; the hits were legit but the band(s) playing the music did so under the band name "The Original Artists"...

The song works fine that way too, though it pretty much lacks the high-flying/hypnotical drive of the original version.
