Support Need help - sub detection ranges submerged/surfaced and other destroyer related thing

Dear all!

I currently work on all the detection stuff for our upcoming sub sim and have a question probably you can answer much better than I could achieve during a google search (yes, this was a compliment! )

Is there some kind of a rough formula how you would say a destroyer could detect a submarine, dependent on if it's surfaced or not, the time of day and if it shows the broad side or not. I want to make this somehow realistic to a certain degree. Personally I liked it the way it was done in Silent Service:

I already have parameters like the depth of the submarine, the heading (in relation to the destroyer), the speed (for noise) and the time of day.

Thank you for your assistance!
