Such a mod made by Privateer?! Could`nt wait.
I hope it will be usable in all "Big Mods" as LSH and CCOM. Rowi use his own Debrismodversion for CCOM.
Best regards

Nice work, Jeff

It would also be very nice to have very primitive wooden rafts. In one of Buchheim's books there are quite a few photos of really primitive rafts (basically a few wooden pallets tied together). It's written there that those rafts were just put on the deck and were popular in case the ship sunk very fast.

Something like this?
It's only 340 faces so has very lttle impact compared to the wooden boats.

Very nice work, Jeff!

You might also make a larger one by taking four of them together and then two layers of this (8 pellets in total).

Here are some pictures of another kind of raft that seems to have been used quite often:

Great links Mate.

I started one like Poon-Lim survived on. I found several more images of the same type raft so it was kind of common and that will allow me to scale it fairly well.

I took a few liberties on the 55 gal drums.

Glad, I could help a bit. Your work looks and sounds very promising

I am getting excited...this is almost as good as when lifeboats/rafts were first announced several years ago.

Will there also be Carley Rafts? Everyone's probably seen those donut-shaped rafts that they strapped to the sides of warship turrets...they were also popular during the war...

It would also be interesting if the survivors could be triggered to fire a flare gun or toss a smoke pot....not to overwhelm you; do whatever you can!

I'm thinking about the Carley Rafts.
All the netting may cause file size problems I'd like to avoid.
I do have an idea on that though.

Also thinking about some kind of lights at night maybe.

Now I've come across something interesting about the wooden rafts.
England built over 300 Chipchase Life Rafts.

http://www.britishpathe.com/video/li...query/01141400

They were built with both the top and bottom the same it seems.
That way no matter how it hit the water you were good to go.

So I looked close at the images of the raft I am working on now.
Photo's I have seem to show 8 drums total with 4 on each side stacked for the flip in an H type pattern.

Anyone have better info or guesses?

Hello, some thoughts:

-- the SH4 model of the Carley floats coming with the original lifeboat mod isn't that bad besides of not having the grid bottom (oh well, there were several types of that ... ); adding that would be a great improvement and may not add too many faces
-- netting can be done with little faces, just with texture (I guess that is what are thinking of anyway)
-- the wooden lifeboats look great; is it possible to give them a rudder (not a working one, just a 3D model)?
-- here are images of Chipchase rafts I found in the net:

Did you ever try later versions?
I'd like to know if there were conflicts, ctd's, etc.
I can scan for ID problems in a limited way to try to make it work wwith all major mods.

I've also looked at the val changes and can write a program to do changes on any Ship Unit by scanning the Sea folder.
