F5 will toggle the deck gun crew, F6 toggles the flak crew, and F7 will toggle action stations. Handy for when you're running decks awash and the deck gun decides it wants to give your position away to that convoy.

EDIT: Was running 1.0; the F1 keymap help was updated for 1.01 it seems. F8 is now silent running.

F1 help screen should show what abilities the buttons activate.

Default What does "Battlestations" do, exactly?

In SHIV it "increased overall efficiency" and you could see on the crew screen that everbody was out of their bunks whether they needed sleep or not, etc. - I'm not sure I can tell what it does in SHV, don't recall seeing more crewmen standing around, and I'd like to know *how much* extra efficiency I'm getting in exchange for *how much* loss of efficiency at some point in the future.

Indeed. My autopatcher didn't patch (or give me an option to) and I was still running 1.0 which didn't show that.

Running 1.01 now though

Again, sorry if this has been asked before, but how do I order to return to the plotted course? It's driving me nuts.

I've been meaning to ask in my game at least F5 through F8 are 'greyed out' on the key map and seem to not do anything.

Make sure you're running version 1.1. I had to manually patch it and after that the keymap updated.

For those who don't see the ability keys on the help screen:

F5 toggle the deck gun crew
F6 toggles the flak crew
F7 toggle action stations
F8 toggle silent running (Z-Key does this also on DE keyboards)
F9 over-stress Diesels
F10 overload E-Motors
F11 "tickle" Torpedos
F12 preheat Torpedos

Or you can just press F1 in-game and see the keyboard layout.

PS. F8 is for silent running, F7 is for battle stations.

I'm playing the german version, F5 to F12 is only shown as "ability 1-8" in the help screen.
Are they properly labeled in the english version?

Default SH5 Camera

I see lots of great camera and video shots from players in sh5.

I'd like to take some too but my external camera only goes up or down.. no zoom in or side shots that I can see how to do.

How do I zoom in on things and move the camera around? I can only go up or down with it and no docs explaining how to do other things.

Anyone know?

If you see mouse cursor in camera mode, click right mouse button and
it will change to a small cross, now you can use mouse to turn camera,
move camera with W,S,A,D keys.

Some of the closeup shots are probably made with CCIP's camera mod, you can find that in the Workshop too.
