That is my current ride:

Opel Astra GTC.
But it's the pretender version and only sports a 1.6l engine with 105HP. Still gets me around nicely and get's 33.5 mpg (7,0 l/100km ; 14,2 km/l).

Very nice looking cars, aren't they?. Some Opel GT's("Mini corvette") were shipped there back in days.

Those are the ones! Buick sold them in the 70's(Buick fan myself). The Opel still has a strong following and many clubs.

Opel is still manufacturing but they are part of GM and are not allowed to sell their cars on the American continents to prevent further competition for GM's home brands.
That removes Opel from one of the biggest car markets which prevent them from building the numbers needed to really compete with the likes of VW. Actually GM almost deep sixed Opel in the 1980iers when they were ordered to become cheaper....and they became cheap...and a synonym for extreme fast corrosion. They have just now recovered from the bad image and are building good cars again but the brand is still in financial trouble.

I did not know that! I recall later in the 70's Buick brought in what would become Izuzu. The cars were called Opel and made in Japan. My family had 3 of them. Rust buckets but overall got the job done. The Opel faded in to obscurity. But lived on for some time in Australia

It wasn't meant to be directed at anybody in particular, but I'd just like to avoid the fighting again.

I respect that you're concerned. Too much of the population isn't.

BMW parts aren't the same price as a FORD
Oh but I was paying more and more for parts that didn't exist anymore for the Ford. SVT quit making Focus parts several years ago so every time something broke I either had to downgrade parts or scour the earth looking for a replacement.

One thing I quickly discovered while researching BMW's is that the aftermarket is huge for these and for the most part you get what you pay for within reason.

Took some medium quality pictures of the new Bimmer after I bought it.

Sport, Premium and Cold Weather packages. Heated seats have been nice for the cold mornings so far.

Gonna get into it tomorrow and look at water pump, thermostat and radiator expansion tank. I think I have a smidge of coolant leaking from somewhere up front. Only one way to find out.
