Default new idea for a mod, but 1st, a question

hey guys, Ive been thinking of an idea for a really neat mod (at least for SH3). But 1st before I say my idea, I have a question. Does SH3 have hardcodes that haven't been broken? basically im asking is there stuff hardcoded and unmoddatible.

Yes, much of it is still hardcoded. Don't forget that it is illegal to publish those codes or make mods from them. The mods that do affect the SH3.exe have been released in a form that makes the player do the work himself, so it's technically for him alone on his own computer.

That said, there's no way of telling if that's true for your idea until you reveal what it is.

Well I was wondering if someone could make a mod where we could play as the Japanese in the pacific. Now I am aware of SH4 and there modding community, but the SH3 community is bigger so I was thinking someone here could make a Japanese submarine campaign in the pacific or they could make it for SH4. I'm not a modder so idk how to make mods so came up with this idea. It's just a mod idea and its ur guys choice if u all want to make it.

You would have to talk to the site owner about that. I've never understood exactly what is okay and what isn't, or why.

I'm no expert either, but I believe that the work would not involve touching the basic code at all. Creating new models, especially the interiors, would be a lot of work, and to make it truly realistic would require finding Japanese voice actors, but in theory it's certainly possible. Just look at IABL's Wolves of the Kaiser mod. He's changing everything.

A little (very little) research on my part brings up a couple of attempts in the past to do exactly that.

Unfortunately the work involved means that the people doing it have to be very dedicated, and so far no one seems to have been able to maintain that level of commitment.

Some Japanese models:

Perfectly possible without touching hardcode, I would say, but the workload would be horrendous for one modder or even a team.

You'd never get the Japanese Crew Animations done.
That right there is the immersion killer.

And, as I said, it wouldn't be the same without the Japanese voices.
