Voila L'histoire du U-505 la suite et fin de sont odyssée.

Le U-505 ne s'échappera pas

Quatre juin 1944.Dans la nuit le U-505 a refait ses batteries en surface,sans etre inquiété.A son bord la certitude d'avoir échappé
à l'adversaire domine.Dans la matinée de ce jour fatidique,il navigue en plonger,tout est calme.
Puis,peu aprés onze heures, l'installation hydrophonique du submersible fait entendre des bruits d'hélice.Dans le méme temp en surface,un contact sonar est établi avec lui par le destroyer du Capitaine de Corvette Knox.Il est à quelques centaines de métres
sur tribord avant du destroyer,qui se dirige au plus vite sur lui.Tous les batiments US gagnent le poste de combat,Dés l'annonce du contact deux avions Wildcat décollent du porte-avion.Il prennent immédiatement la direction du destroyer qui ayant dépassé le submersible aprés avoir largué un peu au hasard des charges de profondeur,est entrain de faire demi-tour pour revenir sur le U-505.
Dans le submersible a la réception des bruits d'hélice,son Commandant avais ordonné le poste de combat puis un prise de vue avec le périscope.Il espérait vraisemblablement que ces bruits provenaient d'un navire marchand,lequel aurait constitué la premiére cible d'une mission jusqu'alor vaine.Mais il a la désagréable surprise dés que l'optique du périscope créve la surface,d'observer la proue effilée d'un destroyer qui se rue
lui.Il n'est déjà plus qu'à quelque centaines de métres,bien tros proche pour qu'une plongée d'urgence premette d'échapper à son premier passage.
Lorsqu'ils survolent le U-505 les deux avions Wildcat lachent des rafales de leur armement de bord sur sa position,confirmant ainsi au destroyer alors en fin de giration.Le destroyer au moment ou il atteint le point désigné par les gerbes des projectiles qui ont crevé l'eau,largue de nouvelles charges réglées à si faible immersion qu'il est lui méme fortement secoué par leur déflagration.Pendant que le batiment entame une seconde giration pour effectuer un troisiéme passage sur la position du submersible,son équipage a les yeux fixés sur l'océan,en attente d'un éventuel résultat du grenadages.
Sous la surface,le U-505 est bousculé.les lumiéres vacillent puis s'éteignent.Une voie d'eau conséquente induit un début rapide d'assiette sur l'arriére.Le batiment s'alourdit rapidement et devient aussitot difficile à maintenir.L'équipage est fatgué,le risque augmente de seconde en seconde,que la quantité d'eau embarquée ne permette plus de conserver une immersion de sécurité.On ne va vraisemblablement pas pouvoir attendre bien longtemps avant de devoir faire surface.
Les eaux ont repris peu leur aspect habituel,les remous des explosions viennent de se calmer quand,sur le porte-avion est remarqué un début d'irisation de la surface.C'est un signe tangible que,vraisemblablement,le U-BOOT a été touché.Puit rapidement la zone colorée par ce qui ne peut que provenir d'une fuite occasionnée au submersible,s'étend.A bord du U-505 l'importance de la voie d'eau et les diverses autres avaries,ne laissent pas le choix au commandant.Le batiment n'ira pas plus loin en l'état,il ne lui reste plus qu'une solution,faire surface,tenter de sauver l'équipage tout en s'assurant qu'ensuite,le submersible ira au plus vite par le fon.Le commandant doit se résigner à ordonner l'évacuation et le sabordages.
