Yeah, quite a good film! Though some moments are lacking common sence:hmm:

Another good modern film (and much better one) is "In august '44" ("В августе 44-го") it is about work of field counter-intelligence group based on the book by Vladimir Bogomolov "Moment of Truth" ("Момент Истины"). The book itself is very high rated by specialists as it shows field operations of such kind very documentarily, and logically heroes of the book are acting just as real NKVD's operative would act. In the film some important moments were thrown out due to the scenario limitations or distorted sometimes so if you could aquire both the book and the film it would give you the best picture. The film is very good nevertheless.

Best Regards!

From that clip, it seems that everything in WW2 was apparently filled with petrol and willing to explode in a swirling fireball at a moment's notice. It kind of got a bit ridiculous as it went on with the same fireball viewed from fifty different angles, particularly when one of the things that slowed the Germans down very often was lack of fuel. That said, I'm quite a fan of films from anywhere other than Hollywood, so I'll probably seek it out anyway.

I have been working in cinema production for some time so I know why everything seems to be filled with petrol - because it IS filled with petrol Kerosene - is the cheapest way to make a blowup. Our guys usually use it at TV-serial production which are beeing produced in zounds in our country. And viewers of such production (who are old grandmothers and housewives mostly) see no strange in funny cases when mortar shell explodes like a can with gasoline :rotfl:
As for Zvezda - it was shot with a budget much less than that of a "9-я рота" ( "9-th company" ). And as for me - main value of this film are not the battle scenes but characters.

Best Regards!

Gasoline or not, at least the Germans speak like real Germans, something which the Germans in 99.99% of all US war movies fail to do, including Saving Private Ryan and pretty much everything else.

Well, I bought the movie, added to my collection of Russian war movies. It wasn't too bad. It had subtitles and bonus features I love those Razvechiki uniforms .
