SH3 is NOT fun to play

I feel ripped off and want my money back, this game is not fun to play like SH2, although it has advanced graphics that should make the game play much more enjoyable it is not enjoyable at all, it is though the game has put limitations upon itself to give it realizm, but I am the Captain of the boat, to make this game REAL, i should just give the order to fire upon a ship, and when I press Z on the key board, it should allow me to zoom in zoom out on the map and periscope.

Someone needs to make and SH2 mod for SH3, SH2 gameplay with the stuning graphics of SH3, and there you go, the perfect game.

...its taken you a while to come to that conclusion?

any how - give it some time and mod it up: GWX GOLD + the mod soup of your choice installed with JSGME.

Default SH3 is NOT fun to play

As the Christmas pantomime season is upon us, all I can reply is;

"O yes it is!!"

I'm thinking this is actually a joke to illustrate people sticking with SH3 rather than jump to SH5.

But just in case: You can make SH3 as simple or as complex as you want. You can "point and shoot" if you like. Or you can use Manual Targeting but have the 1WO ("Weapons Officer") do the calculations for you.

SH2 was a fine shooter game, in which you had to complete each level before you could progress to the next. It was also a fun adversarial multi-player game when used with Destroyer Command. It does not, however, hold a candle to SH3.

I play SH3-4-5 alternatively all of which I admit have their own peculiarities.

SH3 when you add GWX 3.0 Gold + SH3 Commander which comes with its own optional mods and its required additional cfg file becomes a totally different animal.

Many different options become available and I can see why SH3 has become such a cult following even after 10 years.

I read both the GWX Manual and the SH3 Commander Manual before I even bought the game and I then knew that I was in for something special and I have not been disappointed.

With a decent gpu SH3 graphics are very good and do not disappoint.

The problem can arise when you play a Silent Hunter game version for a long time and move to a new version you may expect it to be based on the previous version but tweaked with improvements.

This has never been the case with each Silent Hunter version being radically different.

They say familiarity breeds contempt.

So is it just too damn SH3?

You could arguably say yes and also add SH4 and SH5 if you are going to play all versions as stock.

It is the additions and mods that take these games to another playable level.

Modders have spent countless hours to give some of less capables games to be proud of.

So was SH2 for its time just another arcade type game?

Well, in a sense I commiserate with the poster. Yes, many times playing SH3 isn't fun. After the third week in the rain and nothing but neutral ships spotted, it can be kind of annoying.

On the other hand, I've just installed the H.Sie weather fix mod, so maybe that will improve my enjoyment.

Those of us that were here when SH2 came out, could not disagree with you more. What a truly awful game it was. Fixed script, ships running up on land, convoys just going in circles, uber DDs, the list could go on.

This fellow must be joking!

I immediately assumed this was a dig at SH3 people and SH5 also.

I've tried twice to get into SH5. I just can't take a liking to it. It's possible that my computer isn't strong enough, but everything just feels so...sluggish in SH5. Half the time I can't figure out how to get my crew to leave the deck gun or even get off the bridge to dive.

What a heretical thought.

Is this guy a troll or something! Im flabbergasted someone would come on here and say SH2 was better than SH3. Thats like turning up at Old Trafford in City gear and winding up the crowd but I appreciate everyone has an opinion and in the interests of free speech let him slate it if it makes him fell better. Some guys have said to mod it up but the stock version us still better than SH2. I really feel I dont need to explain why!

Hey Scott

"Thats like turning up at Old Trafford in City gear and winding up the crowd"

Shame on you for mentioning the Manchester clubs when you come from the West Midlands.
Wolves and Baggies would have been more appropriate.
Only kidding mate, I know you are writing for a wider audience.

To U-15. Yeah i thought everyone would relate to that special derby game. If I had said Blues and Villa or Wolves and Baggies I dont think many would know what I was talking about. For those from the US I suppose I could compare it to New York Yankees and Boston. Either way the OP is a brave man. I will go easy on him but I dont know about other avid fans of this game. Im just down the M6 from you mate in Old Hill near Oldbury and I also love a bostin pint every now and then. I hope everyone has a good Christmas.

I don't think it's a troll. His post history shows he's quite serious about being a SH2 fan. But he also played SH3 in 2010 or so, so he is indeed quite late coming to this conclusion. Not shared btw.

Scott,

Not much joy this Sat for our clubs.
The local team Hednesford Town got 3 points, but that's about it.
Can't be happy with the Wolves getting just 1 point against 10 men.

Anyway as the day is only a handful away, can I take the opportunity to wish you Scott and all our fellow subbers, whatever version they play a Merry Christmas to all.
Sink a few ships and sink a few pints

Take care all
