Default SH3 Modding Tutorials

Hey all because of how many people have technical issues with the Steam distribution of SH3 and now i have gotten PMs mostly on youtube about requesting help, i have decided to start making tutorial videos and putting them on youtube. this is was originally a steam only thing but now it is clear a much broader help tutorials are needed.

(deleted paragraph that is no longer needed)

Note this one is long but i included the positions in the description so you can skip to what you need. I highly recommend my method of installing though in part 1 and repeating what you do there to Stieblers addons
a sequal will be made
Silenthunter3 : Applying JFO mod

If you have any requests PM them to me or just post below. I have a list of what I feel I need to make but i may miss something. and general feed back would be nice

The Silent Hunter triad is available in a Steam version as well as in the publisher's version. The Steam versions require some additional steps to use most mods, which are usually made for the more accessible publisher's release. In the case of SH5, there is one major mod which is incompatible with Steam. Whether there is any advantage to using the Steam version (and the Steam environment) is up to the individual. Some gamers obviously feel there is, and they can best present the benefits as they see them. There are a number of reasons, which I will not recite here, for shunning the Steam approach. YMMV.

Default Update

Ok guys i was hoping to have had more done by now but things have been slow and i have not made any recently so i feel I owe an explanation. First off it takes me almost 4 hours to make and edit each vid because I make 3-5 different ones and watch them again to make sure i covered everything and then i occasionally have to merge a couple of those together because i covered something better in one than i did the other. Now things have picked up in RL i have not had the time to devote to this project as much as i would have liked. I do plan on making at least 1 a week. this week I will be featuring rudewarriors Just Follow orders mod.
This is also probably going to become a general How to thread for almost any version of SH3. I had intended to keep it steam but the amount of PMs i get regarding questions has made it clear that general how to would also be nice

I think everyone is just grateful that you give it the time you can spare.

Thanks, shipmate.

Weird. I bought SH3 from Steam but have never taken any extra steps to get it working or to get mods working on it. Everything has always worked right out of the box with no hassle. I just install the game on steam, point the GWX installer into the game's location inside the steam folder and then install JSGME into the game root folder. Then I install SH3 Commander and it picks up the path to the game automatically. Everything works just like it would with the disc version.

Default New Video

I posted a new video

Silenthunter3 : Applying JFO mod
can be used as a basic tutorial for adding messages, adding some folders to SH3 commander and editing manu.ini mods

A very good idea If one learns how to add JFO! one also learns simultaneously how to add pretty much any other mod that can't be installed with JSGME.

All I ask myself is: What would I need Steam for?
well you would need steam for certain games lke the call of duties require steam to play as the multiplayer is hosted though steam. other games like sins of a solar empire run exclusively through steam.
there are some convenience factors of having steam as well.
