Japanese deck guns had very good range. Merchants they were higher off the horizon than a submarine giving them better opportunity and attack angle to use long range shots to fire on their targets and considering the way this sub was hit we can see right away she was broadside to the firing vessel and presented a huge profile to fire upon.

Giving the Akagi Maru as an example they could have hit the boat 4 miles away without maximizing their firing angle. She even had torpedoes and depth charges. Surface ships carried more powerful and longer range deck guns than did the submarines.

Many vessels had the 14 cm/50 weapon which had a range of over four miles. This was the same weapon used as secondary batteries on battleships and coastal defense emplacements.

Do you have anyother mods installed ? If so, could you please list them..
Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157
[C:\Ubisoft\FOTRSU_80\MODS]

100_FalloftheRisingSun_Ultimate_v0.80_RC1_PublicBe ta_EN
101_SubEngineSounds_v2

the sub engines mod is the six sound files added to RC1 to create RC2.
what is "the dark side of the war"?

Uboats...
Ohh, 101_SubEngineSounds_v2... and it's a homemade fix for the sub engine problems ? either way DSD edits should not effect textures...

Can i view this mod ?

In this case luck beats skill every time and the sub caught a convenient rain shower which screened them from the Japanese patrol boat with the popgun. They ran away and fortunately the Japanese didn't search in the right direction. They determined that they couldn't submerge, radioed Australia and told them the situation. Another sub rendezvoused with them and they were supposed to scuttle the sub. Instead, the captain and a few volunteers took it all the way back, 2,000 miles to Freemantle on the surface.

see...the same result could not have happened in this simulation because a hit like that would have sunk the boat...in SH4.

one can only be at a certain level of reality in a simulation....and you can quote me on that.
I'm famous (or infamous) for saying that in a computer simulation reality is not on the menu. We make the least wrong decisions we can make in every single respect and go with it. CapnScurvy and I can go back and forth for hours on "what is reality" and never reach any kind of agreement.

I've done the same thing with Lurkerhlb about his RSRDC. Any decisions we make are wrong and we might as will smile and make peace with that dismal conclusion. The only worse thing is not to have the simulation at all, to refuse to make the decisions that make the mod.

Or, like in the case of Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate Edition, we can make the core mod one way, with bad info on the recognition manual, which isn't the SAME bad info the real boats had, but put us in an analogous position to the real skippers. But my deal with CapnScurvy is that he will publish an approved plugin mod for FOTRSU that will allow players to have that perfect recognition manual with all ships accurate in the database to the inch in all respects. That way you can play the way you want and we aren't telling you what's right.

Because in a computer simulation, realism isn't on the menu.

The interplay between skill and luck is always unknown in naval gunnery. You can tell by the angle of the shot that the gun was elevated almost 45 degrees for a pretty maximal range shot there too. Which helped the sub to escape, I'm sure.

Luck and war are synonymous terms. And luck comes in the good and bad varieties with severe consequences...

No other mods. It was the beginning of the war out of pearl in a gato. Settings were at hard. I had previously had .80 rc1 downloaded then deleted it when rc2 came out. I uninstalled sh4 and reinstalled it after getting rid of any saved games/files/or folders related to sh4. I then installed .80 rc2 but the odd thing was the load screen still said rc1 even though the download was rc2. I intend to uninstall and start it all over again.

If you've already reinstalled SH4 + FOTRSUv80 RC2 and the RC2 splash screen on start up still says "RC1 Public", no worries, it's a "left over" from RC1.
Not a complaint, simply an observation.

Was it in a stationary position or did it move any?
Some people think it's a parachute but there is no animation for a chute like that.

It moved with me. If you increased the tc the object moved as the sub moved if that makes sense.

That makes alot of sense thank you.

Has it happened since, either way could you please re-run the game with the same details, and see what happens?
