I used the image from this site to build the under deck grating.

keltos, if you don't mind I can re-make that to fit the current model, that would be kinda cool

Thanks for the links

Sadly not a great model, and in a small scale

is it me or the guns platform seems way too high ? I would rather stick with the historical pictures than use a model kit, since you don't know where they got their intel from and how accurate it is.

the arrangement of struts under the DG platform is (left side) what I built but I don't know where they got their info for the ones seen on the right side : angled struts ?

the scale of the model itself at 13 inches can't be that detailed either, I had that too with IJN subs models sent to me by Zaza...

In game scale is 1/10 and the model is 1/350 : do the math...

No plastic model is perfect. I couldn't find any other Narwhal models, perhaps I will someday get into making my own molds...in 1/72 scale. No more complaints about detail then eh?

Looking at real life pictures of the grating, I am honestly quite stumped. on the model, yes, they are ridiculously high, my guess is in that scale the deck stands about 5 feet high. my honest guesstimate is about 3 feet in real life.

as for the pattern under the grating, perhaps we won't know, the grating on the plastic model has the right feel about it, even if it is ridiculously tall. Some of the prewar photos are pointing in that general direction, but since nobody is ever shining a spotlight down there in any of the pictures we have, we will just have to make up for the Navy's shortcomings.

http://www.hnsa.org/doc/plans/ss167.pdf

there's the blueprints I used when I resized the model, I used photoshop to bump up the resolution as well as fix some of the missing edges (see the weather deck view, there's a mystical flag appearing there)

I used the tower (the size of the deadlights on both the picture and the model) to scale the background image and I just went to work with the stretch and scale. once I got the right length (blues reference, I have no way of reading any accurate measurement in MM3d, other than placing another object in the program, which, although simple, would take forever to delete) I went and scaled the sub's width, and I got the reference pictures you see there.

I get the feeling you feel a bit insulted, Keltos, it's not my intention, hand on my heart. I am always looking to improve things, no matter what, I'm always correcting my father's grammar and I'm always organizing the shelves at wal-mart (they lost a helluva kid when they rejected my application, yessir)
You have helped me through a lot since I started working on building mods for SHIV and I found it a privilege to work with you on the Narwhal, if it's true that you have taken offense in some way, I humbly apologise.

Maybe I am misinterpreting things as none of us are talking face-to-face and we have our own interpretations of how we are saying certain things as we type them. Okay, enough of my sleepless dribble.

Would you like me to send my rebuilt Narwhal stuff (models) over? I am quite confident that if it didn't look like a Narwhal then it most certainly does now!

send your files over, both the mod and the obj. I'll take a look at it, and send then to Hitman too ok ?

no hard feelings but I know we had made a really good job with the Donation Narwhal, remember it took over 9 months of working, 3ding, researching and making the mod work.

btw : post the link to the original of the blueprint on the thread please.

I just downloaded this and everything went in no problem. Narwal came up as a selectable sub. Once I was in base all the crew screens, damage control, equipment screens etc. were from what looked like a gato or balao. The actual sub once I started my campaign looked like a gato with 2 guns, no big platforms, and a completely different conning tower than the Narwal in the picture. Im running RSRD and Operation Monsun. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Yes I have the donation one. I removed RSRD and OM and redid it and everything works great. Excellent job on this one, those dual 6 inch guns make short work of everything that comes broadsides to me Keep up the great work guys!

I dont know if I read right but did some people have problems getting both to fire? If I set my target through the binoculars both fire perfectly fine.

This thread need more pictures!

The unique arrangement of Argonaut's deck torpedo tubes, installed during her 1942 modernization:

The Narwhal, modernized a year later, has two of her added deck tubes much further forward than in the Nautilus and two at the very stern as in the Argonaut.
The tubes under the Narwhal's after gun remained non-firing stowage tanks for spare torpedoes...

The end... Nautilus waiting for the scrappers... Januar 1946:

Here's some more pictures I found.

USS Narwhal SS 167 (ex-V-5) in heavy seas. circa 1930's

Narwhal during Pearl Harbor attack. Gun crews on deck wait for
Japanese planes to come close enough to fire on. Narwhal shared credit
with several other ships for downing a Japanese torpedo bomber. Sailors
on the dock wait with rifles to shoot at the attackers. One has fixed a bayonet.

Now I'm missing "Narwhal.tga"

It 'Dings' and then there is a "Narwhal.tga not found" when I click on sub management before even leaving port.

Excellent! Just one more patrol in Silversides before going full-time Narwhal!

Unfortunately I don't have the download link anymore...

Do you know if that Neal-character will send out new e-mails once download is ready?
