He interviewed (via Skype) for a lecturer/trainer position at the local marine college a few days before he joined his new ship and they called him yesterday and offered him the position

I think he'll give this Stena Line position a chance though because he knows the marine college is heavily dependant on foreign students and travelling abroad for anybody is obviously hitty missy atm.

Always a pleasure to hear about your son's traveling through the pitfalls of life and winding up still on his feet.

Surely you can be proud of him and I'm sure his grandfather too has been informed in heaven about your son's success

Great news Jim. I know it's been a difficult year in a number of industries dealing with Covid. I know the travel industry has been decimated. It's awesome to see that young James has landed " on his feet. "

Congratulations to young James on the next step of his career.

Now that he is home every evening and at weekends he's taken up collecting exotic plants and outdoor gardening

Well done young Buna! I rather imagine having him home in England instead of Indonesia during the pandemic is also less stressful to you and Mrs. Buna!

He's well on the way Markus but he's studied and worked hard for it since the age of sixteen.

I received a PM from one of our forum members overnight which ended "How 'bout a post on your son's career? It's been awhile."

Fair enough then....James commenced his latest position as a Pilot on the River Tees approximately just over a year ago and he is thoroughly enjoying the experience. The River Tees is massive traffic-wise compared to the River Tyne and the hours can be long but on the plus side the pay is quite a bit more than he has ever been on and even more importantly he is happy.

The job has six career grades/increments for advancement up the pay scales to the eventual summit of Harbour Master. These grades/increments take the form of exams and experience via number and size of vessels navigated in and out of port.

James passed the third test last week so is well on course (no pun intended) to achieve his ultimate goal.

On a humorous note: He informed me he met a ship a couple of miles offshore which required navigating into port and upon arrival and entering the vessels bridge he realised the captain and others on watchg were all under the influence of drink or drugs. He availed himself of the gadgetry fitted into his survival coat (these cost almost £2000 so must have some state of the art kit in them) and within an hour the captain and a couple of his officers noticed they were being closely followed by a police launch to which one of them said "Oh look, we must be extremely important"

Coming into port and nearing the ships berth there were a couple of police vehicles and James told me they then started to realise what was about to happen.

James said nothing and left the vessel at the earliest opportunity.

Well done son.

Well done indeed Jim. Glad to hear that James is doing well.

One sends one Klingon to take over another ship. Does your son have forehead ridges and staring eyes?
