Default New Movie: 1952 USCG Small Boat Rescue

"The Finest Hours"

Not really a submarine movie, but I thought this looked good...a film commemorating the response to the "Fort Mercer" and "Pendleton" breakup in 1952...particularly, the legendary small boat rescue that saved the men on the stern of the "Pendleton".

Was pleasantly surprised to see that the boats/ships look historically correct - I can't stand it when Hollywood uses vessels from the wrong era, or that look like toy boats! From what I saw in the trailer, "Pendleton" really looks like "Pendleton".

Got me excited. It might actually get me into a theater again.

Oh. And some of the comments accompanying the trailer are worth reading, too.

Also, we've seen what Capt. Kirk has done in space...now we get to see his maneuvering & piloting skills in the water.
For a moment I thought Shatner will be in it

Trailer looks great but I sense a small dose of the Pearl Harbour women and man relationship. If not overdone, should well be worth a viewing.

I'm thinking more Perfect storm love story, which was a good adition to the story.

Yes; it seems interesting that the love interest is opposed to the mission - understandable because it was so dangerous. It's an interesting change from the "backs her man 100%" cliche.

Just noticed that their "Pendleton" has some streamlining to the stern that the real tanker didn't have, but overall I'm still very impressed with how the
CG render (I assume?) looks...

The movie looks like it would be well worth seeing from the trailer you posted. The storm scenes look just as well done as that from the Perfect storm . I didn't know the story of Pendleton but will look it up .

Now I know what Betonov was talking about with the Star Trek comment .
Chris Pine as Kirk from Star Trek .
