Boy! some one dropped the ball in 1984 on this to go to the trouble to get it up the Hudson, across the Erie canal, the Great Lakes to the Mississippi and Ohio and drop the project. From 1980's "Americas' favorite boat ride" to this...

Kewl Beans, that boat looks very familiar. I wonder if she is the sister ship to Andrew Carnagie's yacht "Dungeness". Dungeness was sold to logging company up in Lake Superior in 1925 and renamed 'Winyah'. My grandfather was captain of the Winyah which brought supplies to Isle Royal back in tha day.

Dungeness

I should imagine a visit on a dark foggy night would feel quite eerie.

Not sister ships; just similar guilded-age boy-toy steel hulls one built at Wilmington, the other (Carniegie's) at Sparrow Point Shipyard owned by Bethlehem Steel eight years apart.@ Rockster?! What happened to the Wunyah after 1944? " Martin Christiansen, captain of the Winyah managed the business of buying fish, carrying freight and transporting passengers on the Winyah, an H. Christiansens and Sons' steamship that plied the shore of Isle Royale from the late 1920's until 1944.
"The steamship captains, representing a link to the outside world,
were very important personalities along the North Shore. They are remembered as nearly inseparable parts of the ships they commanded." It appears solid Norwegian seafaring integrity runs in the family!

EDIT: my call to the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum, Tofte, MN and H. Christianson Nets Co (since 1886) of Duluth are not forthcoming as yet. Royale Isle lighthouse A story of Isle Royale fishermen and their boats. Isle Royale, now a national park renowned for its isolation and untamed natural beauty, was once home to a vibrant fishing community. Full of historical photographs and diagrams of now derelict watercraft. Royale Isle, Michigan bragging rights: Siskiwit Lake
is the largest lake on the island. Siskiwit Lake contains several islands, including Ryan Island, the largest, which contains Moose Flats, a seasonal pond, which contains Moose Boulder. When Moose Flats is a pond, Moose Boulder becomes the largest island in the largest lake on the largest island in the largest lake on the largest island in the largest lake in the world. I'll need a Hamm's with that!

Not sure what happened to the Winyah, I'll have to dig around but I think it just fell by the way or sold for scrap.

Below is a pic of Winyah off Isle Royal well after her days as a yacht for the rich and famous
