In the Roster/American or Geman/Submarine you will find a SSnameofsubmarine. In that file there will be a list of subarines with names, day of commisioning and day of decommisioning. You will have the oppertunity to add new boats or remove olde ones and change the names of the boats. Hope this will help you.

If you mean the individual names (eg snapper, redfin, cod etc)

Go to Data>Roster>American>Submarine

the CFG files here have all the sub naming data.

Hope that helps!

Edit: ah, yes, as above!

I have a secondary question based on this topic.

Are all the sub classes and names issued approximately to when they were historically when you get the option for a new boat?

I ask because I received command of the USS Drum. That would mean that I received the very first gato class to be deployed.

I have been given the USS Drum many times, actually i don't remember being given any other GATO. I know it can be random when you start a career, but i'm not so sure about a upgrade boat.

Every time I upgrade to a Gato, I get the Drum. Later in my career, I'll upgrade and get the Balao. I started a career in a Gato this time around, and I got a different boat, the Grouper. Next time I start pre-Gato, maybe I'll put off the upgrade, and see what happens.

I guess the question is, do you take the first upgrade? I hold back if my current boat is treating me well. Like if I had a nice S-18 or a Narwhal!

Strange, I've not always got the drum, probably because I usually refuse my first new boat. This career I had a crappy porpoise class so the Drum was a good call!
