Hey I forgot a litlle detaill.

After install the SHIII I launched it before applying patching it to 1.4b
cause it asks you for the game CD Key code the first time you run it,
I found out that if you apply the Patches and SF Removal tool and
No DVD patch the game will CTD.

So Install SHIII launch it to the menu, and then exit and apply the
game patches until 1.4b then apply the SF removal tool, the prompt
window will ask you to restart your PC, and the after restart apply the
NoDVD patch, and you are ready to install GWX3 or what ever you want.

Regarding the Vista/Win7 patch (I'm using Win XP Pro), I noticed in the pdf manual the following:
Quote:
1. Patch Sh3.exe Datei with WinVista/Win7 patch
(it would be best to use the noDVD version, to prevent problems with the original Sh3.exe file.)
2. Apply the 3GB patch to WinXp to let programmes use more than 2GB:
-Go to Computer/extras/folderoptions
-Change to "view"
-Remove check at "hide expansions from known filetypes"
-Remove check at "hide protected systemfiles"
-At "hidden files and folders" -> show all files and folders
-Open C: ->boot.ini with a simple texeditor
-Extend the command line with the following " /3GB
/USERVA=2990 " without questionmarks
I assume I apply the patch to SH3.exe and edit the boot.ini to look like the following:
Quote:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /3GB /USERVA=2990
Can someone confirem this please?

Well all went ok with editing the boot.ini but patching the SH3.exe file causes major glitches:

I replaced with the original and works well!
Also because the sh3.sdl WAC file differs from mine I had to edit my version with S3D and add the extra sounds, tested and also now works well!!

I guess the 3GB patch may have different effects on different systems. Just like the fps hit that Han mentioned about the Sub Pen mod, it only seems to last about 30 seconds for me, then I get the same fps as before.

Reece, are you running WAC or GWX, you mentioned the sdl file so I'm thinking the latter? I'm sure there is not a perfect match between Sub Pens and GWX, and whatever other mods you have enabled. The boot.ini may only be needed by WAC users, since WAC is so large.

I am running my own super-mod, it has bits from GWX2.1, GWX3, NYGM, can't think of them all, somewhere around 150 mods!! Since the boot.ini is a system file I thought that this alone might allow SHIII to use 3Gb instead of 2Gb, and the Vista/Win7 patch to utilize 4Gb on those systems.

No, you also must use the 4GB patch available in the WAC thread along with the 3GB boot.ini modification.

Oh well I might take it out of the ini file then, I thought JCWolf was using XP Pro with GWX3 plus this patch, he seems to be having no troubles, still it worked on the XP without the patch with no lagging or artifacts!

I'm not sure what the 4GB Exe patch really does, but it sure has solved some of my problems. I had been using the /3GB boot,ini switch by itself for a long while, but just after also applying the 4GB exe patch, the big mods I'd been testing are magically working now.

Before, I couldn't add much SH4 and IABL ships to my install, always ending with a CTD. Now I got like 50 extra ships in there, New Interior/Open ConnTower, plus lots of other addon mods with no apparent crash, just longer load times. These two tweaks are necessary I think, If you use XP and have a large mod base. So thanks to who ever has coded the patch..

Thing is my picture in Post #98 (textures flashing on and off) is what happens when boot.ini is edited and the 4Gb patch applied to sh3.exe!? Basically mine is doing the reversal, I have many mods including FM's beta mod, Merchant Fleet mod etc, no glitches or lagging!

Hi chaps,

Can anyone give me a pointer to changing the type of u-boat moored in the pens and is it possible to give these boats a new skin?.

I see that the type 7b and 9 files are included in harbour kit.dat.

Reece I have CTD probs when using sh3.sdl so renamed it and the are gone. I don't want to do the 3GB patch what lines did you add to your existing sh3.sdl please.

Regards
