Some of us here have been posting about various medical matters. I just found out a neighbor and good friend of mine for 41 years passed away after suffering a prolonged illness. He was 64, a year younger than me and had been, until the onset of his illness, very healthy and health conscious. Both he and I are of a generation where men tend to just try to push on through health problems without seeking medical assistance, sort of a "walk it off" mentality. He had been diagnosed with diabetes about three years ago. I would often discuss with him his condition and what he was doing to treat it. His doctors would recommend a course of treatment, but, often, he would choose not to take the treatments or do the tests; part of it was probably an ingrained attitude of "real guys" don't need to do this or that, part of it was just as likely squeamishness over the nature of some of the treatments and procedures. We had a strong disagreement when his doctors wanted to put him on dialysis to combat damage done to his kidneys and his refusal to do so. I fear his refusal may have hastened his passing. The real shame of it all is he was a really great person, one of those shirt-off-his-back kind of guys with an impressive moral and ethical compass, the sort of person there are just too, too very few of and whom the rest of society can ill-afford to lose...

If a doctor or other medical professional thinks you need a test or procedure, no matter how inconvenient, painful, or embarrassing, in order to correct or prevent an illness or condition, be man enough to go through with it; the cemeteries are too full of good people who went before their time...

Well I'm back to my old self now, glad the dizzy spells have gone, that sucked big time!!
Now I feel great except for a few slight ailments:
Sciatica
Arthritis
2 Hernias
Eczema
Tinnitus
Not to mention sleeping problems, but hey, this is just called growing old.

Most definitely....I was diagnosed Diabetic in May (Type 2/tablet controlled) and not having had any serious illness previously in my life must admit I was sceptical initially.

My wife 'encouraged' me to take the condition seriously and adhere to all medical advice as well as taking the tablets as prescribed.

Four months on and all my test results are in the norm again and a further check up is not required until next July.

Good on you, Jim. Diabetes is nothing to take lightly. The list of complications from diabetes is extensive; something seemingly trivial can be an indicator of a larger problem when you have diabetes. The foot injury you had recently could have been worse if it had been linked to diabetes. My doctor says I am currently flirting with pre-diabetes and one of the several things they checks is the condition of my feet. I initially thought this was odd, but I was told some of the first indicators of onset or worsening of diabetes appear in the feet. Your lady is spot on with her "encouragement". Good on her, too...

Well another job ended today the company has closed down and I got a few days to myself before moving to my new job with less hours and less money. Six months of searching and my conclusion where the heck is all these thousands of jobs the government keeps banging on about. As far as I see it the truth is far too many people chasing far few jobs, I shall stop there or I will bang on all day at bashing the government.

To all the guys here with your aches and pains along with medical conditions remember the secret is to bang the rocks to together. Not sure how that helps but it has too be better than rolling over and giving up.
