David Gilmour- A boat lies waiting.

This song was written By David as a very moving tribute to Richard Wright who was one of the founding members and a long time keyboardist of Pink Floyd who passed away Sep 15, 2008 at the age of 65. David had said in interviews that Richard loved the water and of course, boats.

Rest in Peace Richard

Eichhörnchen told me that the link I provided didn't open so it may be a copyright issue in the U.K. Eichhörnchen thoughtfully provided an alternative so others can see what the song sounds like although it is a cover.

A Boat Lies Waiting- David Gilmour Cover by Ismael Centeno

~Enjoy~

Heard about this on the radio this morning (you know, radio, that thing they had before mp3) and got on YouTube to watch; just about one of the most stunning clips I've seen. Here is a live, mass performance by 1,000 musicians and singers of a classic David Bowie song:

Rebel, Rebel - Rockin' 1000

I noticed a few young kids as part of the group; how cool is it for them to be able to play music in a huge stadium, live before a packed audience; hopefully, for some of them, it won't be the last time...

Rock & Roll will never die...

Young folk have no idea what a radio is let alone a record player.

When I think of Nico, I also think of Marianne Faithfull, another of the 60s muses. She went through a lot in her life, much like Nico, and, like Nico, she was able to translate her life into art. Here is a clip of her explaining and singing a song she wrote about her experiences with heroin:

Marianne Faithfull - Sister Morphine

Her later career has been as a sort of cabaret singer and she has a repertoire of some very haunting songs. This clip is for a song that is very, very moving, both in content and delivery:

Marianne Faithfull - The Ballad of Lucy Jordan

The last song brought to mind another song, from 1963, that had lyrics and a mood that, even today, many people have tried to decipher. I heard this when it first came out and was mesmerized by the whole production of it; more remarkable is the fact this song, so opaque and unlike other songs at the time, actually got to the #2 spot on the radio and record sales charts; perhaps it was the harbinger for some of the darker songs to come in the 60s and 70s:

The Jaynetts - Sally, Go Round The Roses
