Default Attack Map Bearing Indicator Glitch

One glitch I have that I didn't see mentioned in the thread, is that I can't bring up the bearing indicator in the attack map. Well, I can, but it's not superimposed on the boat, it's off some where else on the map by it's self, you have to scroll the map off the boat to find it. I've got an ATI x1600 Pro 256, with the latest driver, that runs SH 3 beautifully, even heavily modded. I plan to upgrade soon, to double my memory to 2 gigs and add an x1900 or 1950 512, so that may help, but I'm glad I rented first, because right now, the game is so glitchey it's unplayable. I'll try it again after it has been patched, but the game won't be worth purchasing until it's been heavily patched and modded.

Me and my friend with similar PC's but different motherboards. We both confirmed identical crash to desktop problems:

1. when i click the statdameter when it makes a double image and then crash to desktop when i click a 2nd time to lock the 2nd image.

2. was playing the 3rd sub school mission where you have to sink the cruiser and it crashed on me to desktop, it was during firing deck gun.

Please note, first crash can be reproduced often while second is kinda more of a general idea what to do to crash. It maybe related to specific system not sure but its sure annoying.

Default Fuel bug?

2nd mission PH to Marshall Islands.

Left PH and madeway to Mi's, 2500miles or kilometres out I was down to 50% fuel , speed 2/3.

I checked all the stations and there were no faults, all stations were Green. There were no faults in the box below.

I returned to PH and there I picked refill and once done I set off again and all was well with the fuel.

Now 1 of 2 things, this is a bug or random faults are part of the sim, if so then the bug is that the crew/damage control don't tell you about them and they don't show up in the damage control page.

I know this page is working, later on in the patrol I got a little damage from a DD and some of the stations in the page showed up as Red and the fault were in the box below.

Also I noticed that my battery would not recharge beyond 67%, and again no fault show up nor did any of the crew alert me to the fact.

When I was being refilled at PH, I don't think this option repairs faults, if it did then the battery would have been repaired at the same time.?

Now if Refill is just that and no more, then whatever was causing me to lose fuel at the rate I was, would not have been fixed either?

But when I left PH for the 2nd time the rate of use was back to normal.

Sorry guys if this has been posted on here before, I am really tired and want to hit my bed.

2. Aircrafts dont have MGs/cannons

agree in SH 3 you had range of your torps too and that was excelent. In manual it says that you can change "Mark1 "on map and put a note there but won't tell you HOW..anyone. + usual 2d crew, random counting is realy bad . Crew managment is not realy clear to my not much in manual about it SH3 interfece was better

I don't want to state the obvious, but since some people are finding certain things crash their games whilst others don't - update every single one of your drivers?

Game run at 1280x1024 with max settings:

- Periscope wake missing
- Conning tower wake missing when CT comes above surface
- Morse signaling continues even after a ship sinks below the surface (cudos to the signalist )
- Mouse freezes occurs now and then

I recieved my copy last night and eagerly installed the game. So far I managed two patrols from PH. First patrol with full realism, second with automated targeting

This game has made me angry in a way I have never experienced. That this was allowed to be released is nothing short of a scandal! I spent a good portion of money for this?! The person working for UBI that made the decion to release this should be fired instantly. If I was doing my job as poorly as him/her I would have been fired a long time ago.

The buglist for me so far:
Using the stedimeter causes a crash to desktop about half the time.
The speed measurment instrument simply doens´t work.
Thoose two alone are critical gamebreaking bugs.

That this have passed "QA" (quality assuarance) only proves that there havn´t been any betatesting or QA AT ALL!

More bugs:

Sonar isn´t working on pericope depth. (This can´t be by design right?) I can´t hear a destroyer going at full speed towards me 300 meters away? I should be able to hear that through the hull...

Observationpersicsope bearly breaks the surface when at periscope depth?

Crewmen didn´t detect a merchant 2000m away in full daylight?

No audiowarning when detecting ships and airplanes? Only in the message window. Easy to miss when you are busy with other things.

Escorts behave strange. I had a destroyer ontop of me in shallow waters. They launched one salvo of DCs and then returned on severel more passes but never DCed again despite a very good chance to sink me. Other times I have been completly ignored by several escorts even after sinking two merchants in the convoy. They just sailed on as nothing had happend.
Escorts seems to not fire their guns at all but instead tries to ram me? So far I have only been shot at by coastal defenses.

No wake from periscopes.

I have a hole in my sub the size of an elephant but no damage indicated.

I sunk a Fleet Carrier with one torp but a medium merchant needs 7?

No visible damage on ships even after several torp hits.

After two patrols my loggbook in PH still says "No patrols" but my tonnage is reported on the Aces screen.

Tokyo harbor is guarded by one destroyer. I wont comment on the fact that my sub with no fuel and 3 torps left are ordered to the photorecon Tokyo harbour...

Fuelconsumption is too high or missions are too far away. Even refueling at midway I only have around 3-5% to spend in my patrol area. And if there is rough wheather I can´t get from midway and back. Have to wait for calmer seas.

No mission completion after patroing outside Iwo Jima. Spent 48 hours there even sinking one merchant and one destroyer. Still said "incomplete".

When a watch is changed and you are in the command room the crewmen disappear in thin air and isn´t replaced until you switch to another station and back.

I have had two torps explode about halfway to their target for no reason at all. I had "no duds" activated at that time (second patrol)

Thats "all" I can think of right now.

About two years ago I promised myself never to buy a EA game again and I havn´t. Seems I have to add UBI to that list.

I agree that some patching is unevetable due to the complexity of games today and the myriad of hardware that people have. But this, this is so far beyond what is acceptable i lack words.

The first two bugs took me 15 minutes of playing to find. And mind you that for people playing on full realism that is a TOTAL showstopper. This proves to me that UBI and/or the developers decided to skip both BETA testing aswell as any kind of quality assuarance. That is simply unacceptable.

Shame on you UBI!

When you switch off the music in the Sound Settings you can nolonger hear the Gramaphone or Radio. (In fact you can hear the hiss of the gramaphone but not the music!?!)

This one annoys the hell out of me because I'm pretty sure this bug was in the first release of SH3 and they fixed it!!

{sigh}

Besides exepriencing almost every bug mentioned above i also encountered this one:

Started second patrol, beeing in the Asia fleet, in harbour at Java. To my surprise there are two Japanese ships in the harbour anchored next to American ones and firing at different stuff, inlcluding my sub. I sink them after sustaining minor damage and then head out towards open sea, thinking well... one mission bug is okey... but suddenly the shore batteries start firing at me and soon my sub is a total wreck... beyond repair... diving not possible since it's only 15 meters (feet??) deep Sure... i did recieve a message about invasion of Java beeing imminent but this is just ridiculous.

I really love the game and the graphics are awesome... but it is in some serious need of polishing.

'not sure if this should be included as a bug, but it seems as though decks awash is out. i keep ordering my boat (s-class) to c11 meters (what should be c36 feet) and the boat always settles at c15 meters (which should be c49 feet)... so it looks as though there's no intermediary depth available above periscope depth/below surfaced...

There are indeed lots of bugs and I'm really annoyed by the lot of them.

Besides the bugs I'm also experiencing CTD every time I press "launch boat" on troop insertion missions.

So far I haven't found anyone else complaining about similar problem. Does anyone have the same problem or is it just me? I tried to reinstall the game and wasted a whole day working on the problem. The only thing I haven't tried is newer GFX drivers - I'm sticking to some late 8-series nVidia drivers, which hasn't otherwise produced any problems (so far I have uninstalled the 9-series drivers 3 times after getting annoyed and I'm reluctant to do it again, when the problem quite likely isn't caused by the drivers).

Another thing I've noticed is that after completing my first patrol in a campaign the campaign book on the office desk said I had no patrols completed. However, all the kills were recorded in the save game file - Although for some reason "warships sunk" and "merchants sunk" were 0 and so was the missions completed string. I filled up the zeros where necessary, but that didn't change the end result.
I'm going to see today whether a second mission fixes the problem. I wasn't able to finish a single patrol yesterday besides the first one due to furiously working on the CTD problem.

Default Here we go again!

Some of my own observations so far

overall an interesting experience to see what comes after sh3 - Over all I would say the game has promise after the first or second patch and then when the mod community gets stuck in.

A bit confused re graphics, cant work out if I like them, the environmental stuff is beautifully rendered, but over all the look is annoying, rather like if some one smeared Vaseline all over your glasses! Why does everything have to glow like some 1970's art house porno!

Frame rates a bit dodgy, even though I have most of what’s required for reasonable play, with loads of RAM and 256 mb video Ram, a Radeon 9600/x1050, p4 blah blah blah

Crash to desk top when using the Stadometer at night.

Controls don’t seem as intuitive as the SH3 controls

Seagulls, torp explosions, shell fire and plane crash explosions and deck gun sounds seem to repeat add nausea.

I don’t play with music on but notice the radio and gramophone don’t work, do I have to turn the music back on to get the gramophone and radio.

Hydrophone station is a little odd, not sure if I can’t use it because I don’t have one, or if I cant use it cos I’m dumb, I'm playing an S Boat 1941 out of the Philippines. Seem I have a radar though my radar guys seems partial to loosing contacts

Well I'm not going to whine too loudly, I have come to expect that most games will reveal a few bugs when first released, and it usually takes a couple of patches to sort things out, so I guess its over to the Ubi Dev team. I wonder if just on the off chance any of the dev team read the bug reports, and if there are any plans underway for a patch.

1. Air compression level indicator does not work. It stays at 100/100 and does not decrease. Was forced to surface in the middle of a convoi and got sunk. VERY annoying.

2. Hitting evasive manouvre button does not work properly. Ship starts going at flank speed but does not start to turn. Not a big deal but still a bug.

3. After setting torpedo to contact only it jumps back to contact/magnetic after a short while. Kinda irritating when you wait for target to get into firing position.

4. Battery dies to fast when using compression? (not sure on this one).

5. Can't dock at Manila after patrol. No option popping up or anchor in upper right corner. VERY annoying since i had over 30k tons sunk.

6. Target speed measuring in manual TDC does not work at all. This is a REAL showstopper.

7. Sound loops when using "realistic sound travel" option. Not a big deal but still buggy.

8. After patrol looking at Captains log it says "No patrols yet".

9. "Send contacts" button in radio doesn't work.

This is my list for now

I'll ask again. WHERE'S THE FLOODING? WHERE'S THE FLOODING? Has anyone seen any indicators or warnings from crew about compartment flooding? This is a really important thing for a submarine. The manual says that there are small colored warning boxes that pop up on the top right part of the screen when flooding, fires or other emergencies occurs. I think this was feature #456 that was left out before the release. I am now ready to shelve SH4 due to pure disgust at the unfinished and buggy state this game was released in. There are major features listed in the manual that don't work correctly or aren't even in the game... not to mention all of the game-crashing bugs. Hopefully UBI will actually finish the game someday with a patch.

here's a new and strange one:
'decided to hang-out on the bridge as the sub dived to watch these nifty new transparency effects when wham!—game & system freezes for c2-3 seconds then forces a hard reboot of the whole system!

'strange thing is that i'd done that before (hanging out on the bridge) without incident...

:hmm:
