well you might surface right behind him, and real real close, he might only be able to bring four tubes of secondary armament to bear (and lots of flak too) then try to deckgun him, shame you didn't bring any AP rounds though....

you might survive for a whole minute even...

True, but offering them a few provisions and pointing them to the nearest coastline is displaying a certain level of humanity and compassion.
