Sometimes ive got that too. If its not SH3 engine, then its may be graphic drivers fault. Lot of you have nVidia GPU...try different drivers maybe. What about Radeon?

So far we have found that people have the problems with:
1) AMD or Pentium.
2) nVidia or ATI.
3) 1 or 2 gig memory.
4) FSAA forced or application controlled.
5) Any Resolution.
6) XP with SP1 only & SP2.
7) Intel or VIA chipsets.
8) Stock or GWX installs.

Still the damn same, WHY DOESN'T WOOF HAVE THIS PROBLEM???? AAAAAAHHHH!!
I've calmed down now ... easy Reece ... breathe slowly .... much better!

thanks a lot, Reece! I didn't have it, then I do, then not.... raargh!!!

I use PrtScr - a lot - for making my picture logbook. Typical 250-350 pics per patrole but browsing through them shows only very few with the "flaw". Since you brought this thread up, I've seen it all the time.... driving me nuts!

Close inspections shows it's the bowspray thrown ahead of the sub, that's causing the problem. When that image reach the lower end of the bow or the front hydroplane, we have the problem. Now it turns over into a "square" image.... very annoying

However! if you change the values in Sim.cfg for waves amplitude and attenuation, it will go away....

Tests until now shows no flaws. The waves now breaks in the most beatiful way around the sub...

Could it really be this?

Does changing this settings has any other (negative) effects?

There definitely is a correlation between the wave settings and the squares.
Tests seems to indicate that stronger amplitude and/or less attenuation = more squaring....
So far I find amp= 0.2 and att= 0.6 most acceptable? but need more testing before telling side-effects... It's seems the behaviour has existed since stock SHIII have tried back with original files (sim.cfg values, tga-files and scene.dat) with *not* so good result.
Have checked scene.dat too, looking for a "BowSprayLength"-value, but as far as I can see, the only value ever changed since stock is "MaxWaveHeight", so alas...

Here's a little compilation of different settings.
Numbers are amplitude and attenuation.
Left pictures are standard views, right ones are close-ups. All taken in same loadet sequence, same angle and appr. same time...

If you want to see same, but more detailed: http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...Spraytypes.jpg

-----------
Btw. had a spooky experience... *shrudder*
After loading SHIII for the 14th time and pulling my WO on bridge for duty (after all we are on a war path here, testing or no testing) and after taking the pics, I went on bridge myself - just to see WO standing faced towards me and doing - nothing! Frozen he just stood there with his scary eyes and his face twisted in a ugly grimace... frozen and starring!
Never seen that one before, had to double-click him, before he reacted and reached down, picked up his binoculars and started his lookout...
Like he would say: "Wth?! are you doing to us? Diving and surfacing 14 times in half an hour?"
Huh?

Still the same on mine! Changed Waves Amplitude to 0.2 & Wave attenuation to 0.75 in Sim.cfg, the easiest test for me is to go to navigation tutorial, plot a course between the islands run at standard & go to external view, watch from the subs port side then goto periscope depth then surface, always fails within this short period!
But don't give up!
