Likewise ! It's gameplay/attention to detail is head and shoulders above SH3.

No question about that! When you contact a convoy and radio in and watch those other boats move to form a pack-wow! I like to start in "The Happy Times" with a IID, my current career, U115.

Good hunting.

And the escorts and aircraft tactics, behavior, etc. is modeled much better so they're something to be feared vs. the creampuffs in SH3.

Was wondering how one goes about getting Aces of the Deep? Im on a modern computer but I see they have an emulator called DosBox just finding that its very difficult trying to find this classic game. I even tried looking for the windows version called Command Aces of the Deep and thats non existent.

You don't want CAOD. It's buggy. eBay usually has AOD on it at times.

Thanks, I will have to keep my eyes open for a copy. It sounds like a fun little gem of a game and I'll make sure to steer clear of the windows version. Nothing beats some classic games especially if its as detailed as this one looks. Shame they just don't make 'em like they use too.

If you know the history/tactics of the Battle of the Atlantic, it's all simulated in the game. In many respects, simulated better than in SH3.
The only thing that really bugs me about it is you'll run into a lot of single tankers to sink.
Not that they didn't exist in real life, but theres a few to many in the game.
Also, unless you know how to do the hex edits (not hard) for the game mentioned on this site, you have to start off in a Type II (like the actual commanders had to).

Btw, the escorts and aircraft in AOD are much more accurately portrayed in terms of abilities, skill, tactics, etc. than in Sh3.
In short, if you use the tactics/mindset in AOD that you do in SH3, you'll get sunk every time.

Thats quite alright with me, I plan on cranking the realism up to max and learning as I go. That's one thing I wish sh3 had better and thats a better Ai. I give the modding community credit they try their best and I thank them for it but there's only so much they can do.
Have to look on ebay while I'm at it for a floppy disk drive. I realized even if I somehow find a copy on ebay my computer has no way of reading a floppy
The one moment where I wish they had a digital alternative but then again look how far we have come since the VHS and dial-up Internet days. Man there is moments when I realize I'm getting older...
Anyways good day/night to you Sir and thanks for the chat.

Try to find the boxed cd-rom version of AOD; it has lots of nice features. Video interviews, history, tactics, paper map, real manual, etc. Worth the price just for that part.
And of course, easier to install.

I had the opposite experience After getting used to night surface attacks in AOD, I tried it in SH3 only to be detected and fired upon from far longer range than escorts should realistically be able to see me...

Uderwater though, it was exactly that - after AOD escorts, SH3 ones felt like minor nuisance.

I hope Neal doesn't yell-there is a fellow on e-bay that did all the work.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...+deep&_sacat=0

Get the $29 version, top one on the list. Works perfectly on Win 7 computer, just like the old game did in the day.

The first loading is slow-like wait and wait, then it begins to install and the rest is history. I have dealt with the dealer before on items, very trustworthy.

No I do not get a commission for the advert.

CAOD is buggy. AOD is a much better choice.
