Awesome thanks! Seems to be working ok.....I say having just had the game freeze/crash when I was trying to save.

But anyway, yep is working just fine, thanks again.

Hi LvH
This mod should go behind GFO Webster's New Orders Bar Menu for v1.5.
New Orders Bar Menu
Webster's GFO comes with a comprehensive text document where he shows you additional mod combinations RSRDC and Real Environments that are compatible and the correct order to enable them.

I found a mod to add a nomograph, but not one to add a 1500 yard bearing plotter. Suggestions?

That's mine. While it will work OK on 1024x768 and 1152x864, if you have a modern system you need to use CapnScurvy's 3000 yard bearing plotters, specially made for different graphics resolutions. On a wide aspect screen mine is an egg, not a circle!

Beware! 3000 yard bearing plotters eat memory like a kid eats popcorn at a movie. You may run into problems using a 3000 yard bearing plotter, especially with big supermods.

Thanks Peter and RR,
I installed the 3000 yd plotter since I'm running at higher resolution.

Very nice! How's it working for you? I have 4GB of memory and 3000 yard bearing plotter works well in GFO.

The 3000 yard tool works fine in testing at Submarine School. I'm still finishing a campaign in TMO, so I haven't had much experience with it in GFO yet.

Default Huge Save Game File Size

Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157
[C:\SH4 GFO\MODS]
Game Fixes Only Mod v1.1
New Orders Bar Menu
stock v1.5 missions pack
Webster's No Crew Fatigue
Magnified Hud Dials for v1.5_Large
Bigger Better Protractors
Webster's Ship Manuvering Fix
SCAF for SH 1.5
Webster's New sonar view for v1.5
410 TMOPlot09032013
410 TMOkeys

I set out on my first patrol and saved after I completed my first mission. This save was not a Replay file and the size was 645MB. When I play TMO/RSRDC, my saved files are no more than 4-5MB.

Does anyone have an idea why the GFO files are so large? I can't help but think this is going to cause trouble down the road.

GFO files are the same as stock savegame files: no changes. What causes huge savefiles is not ending your cruise when you should. Complete your mission and return to base to end your cruise! NEVER refit and go back out, unless it's a mission from Pearl and you stop by Midway to top off with fuel.

Bad things happen when you reload and go back out, and it's not all about the huge savegame file. First, you are awarded renown, given medals for the crew, have the opportunity to promote crewmembers and are offered boat upgrades ONLY at the end of a cruise.

Now boat upgrades are chosen by the infamous blind chimpanzee, Ubi, who sits in a room on a rotating stool. At the end of the cruise, after being spun at high speed 10 revolutions, he tosses a single dart at a wall which contains all available upgrades. He might hit one. He might stick the ceiling and you get squat.

But if you refit all the time you waste the majority of opportunities you would have had to upgrade your boat! Friends don't let friends screw up their games by not ending cruises after objectives are met.

Finally, check out the readme for Game Fixes Only to see what mods Webster used to make it. I know for a fact that his Ship Maneuvering Fix is already part of GFO and you don't need to load it again. You might find others you can eliminate.

Thanks RR,

Clarifying, I didn't refit and go back out. I accomplished my first mission (deliver a spy to Hokkaido) and haven't even fired a torpedo yet. I saved at this point.

You're right, the Ship Maneuvering Fix is already in GFO and I found SCAF is as well. I'll remove them, begin a new campaign and see what that accomplishes.

Hi granite
SCAF is not included as part of GFO IIRC.
Also if using SCAF it is also worth adding this mod that comes with SCAF > Max Optics 3 for SCAF v1.5
I also recommend this mod also.
Eye Patch for Stock In 2nd Folder

Hi Peter,
I checked Webster's readme file as RR suggested. I found a file named "List of Mods in GFO.txt" and SCAF is listed. However, when I removed SCAF via JSGME, the periscope view was back to stock. You're right about SCAF, so I enabled it again.

I'll set out on a new patrol and see what my save file sizes are. Thanks for your help.

After yesterday's postings (#369-374) above, I've done a lot of testing.

I removed every mod and added one back at a time. After a each mod was added, I started a new American campaign in 1941 from Pearl with a Gar loaded with the same equipment. I transited from Pearl to Midway, saved the game and logged the file save size. I left the difficulty set at Easy because I didn't think this would affect the saved file size.

The saved files were a size you'd expect; ~950kb. I thought I solved the file size problem, so I began a real campaign in earnest and the only thing I changed from above was the difficulty setting (I chose custom). I made it to Midway and the saved file was 122MB.

I began my testing again, this time changing only the difficulty level. My saves after reaching Midway on Easy level were always ~950kb, but all other levels of difficulty (Normal, Hard, Very Hard and Custom) had save sizes at 122MB.

What do you make of this?
