Hello,
I decided to try it again last night but this time I would skip some more of the installation so I made a clean install of SHII, then the official UBI 1.1 Patch and everything worked as expected. The I installed PA RC4 and the only thing that I selected in the options was the rain mod. Then I checked the operation and I can play the missions and the campaigns, it all seems to be working. Now the next thing to do is to install the PA 1.1 patch then check the operation, and during the install if I get to select some options I will have to figure out what to skip again, one thing that I will skip will be the high res install. Has anyone made a mod that can be added to the PA mod to speed up the crew on torpedo loading and give the Fleet boats 6 torpedo tubes in the bow and four torpedo tubes in the stern??? The torpedo crew seems to be a bit on the slow side, 30 to 40 minutes to load a tube is nuts................... I still can not find the arlo wave files any where....................... By the way how do you get a stowaway on a WWII sub? Sounds out of place to me.... I have a ATI Radion pro 256 and I have had nothing but trouble from it and ATI does not seem to care, they keep suggesting the same thing to do as a repair and then they mark my file as Resolved which is a lie. I recently downloaded some old drivers for the card and installed them, that fixed some of the problems but not all. My next card will be a GeForce Nvida which will be new since all my other cards have been ATI but after the experiance with ATI and this card never again, they can take their cards and stick them. Fleet boats 6 torpedo tubes in the bow and four torpedo tubes in the stern???
"If you keep firing then the boats that came with 6 forward & 4 stern will fire them but won't show it" The torpedo crew seems to be a bit on the slow side, 30 to 40 minutes to load a tube is nuts................... "I think this is normal" I still can not find the arlo wave files any where....................... By the way how do you get a stowaway on a WWII sub? Sounds out of place to me.... "This was a german subsim & all the sounds were not converted so every once in a while you hear a german on board." Roy One other thing have you tried runing a spy software like "spybot"? It could be the reason your having problems runing the game. Sometimes games mess up on me & when i get rid of the spybots everything runs fine just a suggestion |

Hello Old Man,
Well as for taking 30-40 minutes to reload torpedo tubes, I have a friend who was an XO on the US Barbel 580 and I ask about the load time and his reply was 15-20 minutes, so 30-40 minutes in battle conditions is nuts. If the torpedo crew was that slow during the war I will bet that they would have found themselves reassigned to land duty................. As for spy ware, I have SpyBot search, destroy,Crap Cleaner and window washer and everytime I log off the net I run crap cleaner and window washer, plus I always check the registry. You are right about the German, but what it sounds like to me is a German getting a good beating. Darrell Last edited by Rcsubs; 09-26-06 at 01:05 AM. |

The T Class, Gato and Balao submarines also have a unique characteristic: They have six bow and 4 stern torpedo tubes, but here a little explanation needed. SH2 has a limitation in its interface when it comes to the number of torpedo tubes (Max. 6), so we had to overcome this problem by creating "virtual" torpedo tubes. This means that, despite seeing only 4 tubes, you will in fact have two more shots from your bow tubes and two more from the stern ones, but you will not see the green/red lights for them. The needle will simply stay on tube 4 while you fire tubes 5 and 6, or in tube 6 when you fire tubes 9 and 10 (Rear). This is the closest we could achieve. Sorry. But better six fake tubes than only four real ones.
What may frustrate you a bit is the high value of duds you will get with your early war MK14 torpedoes (Until mid 1943). This is realistic, so don't blame us for that. If you get sick of this, play with Dud torpedos off in Realism options. Didn't you read the readme?

Hi Adam,
Well yes I did read the readme file, and last night I had a couple extra torpedo shots from the bow #4 tube. Is there a way to change the torpedo loading time? What software do you use to make changes to the game and where can I get it?? I played the mission going after the Yamamoto and I sank the two escorts and hit the main target a couple of times. I moved in for a final attack on the stern, down scope while moving in and when I ran the scope back up I was looking at the bow which was strange, tried to dive the Yamamoto hit me, when I cleared the stern I had to do a emergency surface, when the boat surfaced I was looking at the bow of the yamamto and got blasted by her big guns. How did the Yamamoto pull this off? That ship made 180 degree turns in place, figure that out............... Darrell |

Unable to D/L Pacific Aces
Hi folks. Each time I try to download Pacific Aces using the Subsim Bonus mods page (which expires in 72 hrs) I get a 404 error telling me the page is unavailable. I'll be patient and try later on of course but was wondering if is is up any running?
Thanks! |

Welcome helibobber
I am sure the folks here will figure this out for you. A great mod for a not so great Stock SH2. But as I have heard here, without SH2, we would not have had SH3 or 4 for that matter RDP |

Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking forward to playing Pacific Aces although I'm still learning SH2. The information available here is amazing. People here certainly have a depth (!) of knowledge to share.

Fast Attack is the first sub-sim that I played, SH2 is what brought me here, though I shadowed the site for quite awhile before joining.
Have fun with it RDP |

Invisible Files
I have two copies of the Super CD. They worked, with some difficulty, on my eight-year-old HP running Win98SE, but I still managed to get the files off them.
Now I have a new Acer laptop with Vista, and Explorer says there are no files in the Pacific Aces and several other folders. No files appear in the window and Explorer says the folder is empty. Any advice will be appreciated.

Re: Scope and Janus
Quote:
The default scope in Pacific Aces uses a similar structure to the original SHII scope. However when you install Pacific aces you are given the option to overwrite this default scope with the Kollmorgan authentic US scope by Darkstream. Be warned that this scope uses large texture plates and will have trouble running on some systems. To operate the Kollmorgan scope, raise it ( pageup key) and then click on the small red button (bottom right) in order to go to the zoomed view ( attack periscope). Here you can operate the scope with the arrow keys, and zoom from 1x to 4x and back with the “Z” key. If you are in “Rig for Red” status it will be necessary to use the command “Secure from Red” before going to the zoomed view, or you will not be able to see anything clearly! Works like a charm for me - though the first time that red button in the lower right corner was small and obscure! However, if anyone is reading, could you remind me of how to "lock" the attack scope - I have it configured this way on an older system of mine, but can't recall how I did this. :hmm: As to the Janus errors, this may seem obvious, but persistance, at least for me, pays off. Keep generating the scenarios - by second or third try, I usually get it to generate Janus free. Also, even with the Janus I can oftentimes re-start PA, click on "Continue Campaign" and simply select the save file that generated the initial Janus error, and the error doesn't replicate, and things work fine. Annoying, but I've tried all the install iterations mentioned on this site and still haven't discovered the secret to complete Janus freedom! |
